Now, minute particles found at the machine have been confirmed to be Gordon\u2019s remains.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can confirm the material is consistent with human fat, microscopically minute particles of skin, and small pieces of bone,\u201d Spartanburg County Coroner\u00a0Rusty Clevenger said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Missing worker&#8217;s remains found in plastic recycling machine at South Carolina plant <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/TIAlJWup0j\">https:\/\/t.co\/TIAlJWup0j<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/rGZ3WNE7yO\">pic.twitter.com\/rGZ3WNE7yO<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 FOX8 WGHP (@myfox8) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/myfox8\/status\/1545055165337677827?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 7, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The coroner\u2019s office was first contacted on June 10, when investigators from the Spartanburg County Sheriff\u2019s Office discovered his DNA there. The Spartanburg County Coroner\u2019s Office said the machine was inspected at least four times after Gordon\u2019s disappearance, including by plant officials, a cadaver dog, and Gordon\u2019s father, Mike Gordon, who is a supervisor at the plant.<\/p>\n<p>Although evidence was found during the inspections, the machine was restarted afterward and processed around 60,000 pounds of plastic in the two months since Gordon\u2019s disappearance.<\/p>\n<p>During one of the inspections, a detective found what appeared to be human remains under a conveyor belt, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thestate.com\/news\/local\/article263243493.html\">TheState.com<\/a>. When the remains tested positive for human blood, authorities contacted Clevenger\u2019s office, which confirmed their worst fears.<\/p>\n<p>Another inspection turned up two ounces of human skin, bone, and fat, the coroner\u2019s office said. Gordon was working atop the machine when he vanished. The room includes several machines and it is noisy, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heraldonline.com\/news\/state\/south-carolina\/article263243493.html\">HeraldOnline.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is investigating to determine if any safety violations may have contributed to the tragic accident. An OSHA spokesperson told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thestate.com\/news\/local\/article263243493.html\">TheState.com<\/a> that the review could take two months.
