The group has provided roughly 40 pages of research and written testimony to the committee to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.splcenter.org\/news\/2022\/06\/10\/splc-statement-jan-6-select-committee-proud-boys\">facilitate<\/a> its investigation of the riot, an SPLC lawyer told the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur work has helped to document coordination between Trump, his allies and two extremist groups we\u2019ve tracked for years,\u201d SPLC Senior Policy Counsel on Hate and Extremism Michael Lieberman told Politico.\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/13\/jan-6-committee-hearings-2020-riots\/\">(RELATED: We Asked Every Jan. 6 Committee Member When They\u2019d Hold Hearings On The 2020 Riots. No One Had An Answer)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The SPLC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.splcenter.org\/hate-map\">has<\/a> a \u201chate map\u201d on its website that characterizes some mainstream right-leaning groups as extremist in order to censor them, Hayden Ludwig, a senior researcher at Capital Research Center, an investigative think tank probing nonprofits, told The Daily Caller News Foundation. The SPLC is \u201cthe Left\u2019s top censor for groups it wants to shut down,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPainting right-leaning groups that support widespread, traditional beliefs as \u2018extreme\u2019 is just a way of shutting down debate so leftists don\u2019t have to defend their own radical views,\u201d said Ludwig.<\/p>\n<p>Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), a legal <a href=\"https:\/\/adflegal.org\/about-us\">group<\/a> focused on religious liberty that has successfully argued dozens of <a href=\"https:\/\/adflegal.org\/for-attorneys\/cases\/supreme-court-cases\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">cases<\/a> before the U.S. Supreme Court, is one of SPLC\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.splcenter.org\/fighting-hate\/extremist-files\/group\/alliance-defending-freedom\">designated<\/a> hate groups. The group criticized ADF for working to develop \u201creligious liberty legislation and case law\u201d that denies LGBTQ-identifying people goods and services \u2014 and says the legal group was \u201cone of the most influential groups informing\u201d former President Donald Trump\u2019s \u201cattack on LGBTQ rights.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another group the SPLC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.splcenter.org\/fighting-hate\/extremist-files\/group\/family-research-council\">designates<\/a> as hateful is Family Research Council (FRC), a nonprofit research and educational group advocating for pro-family policies. FRC has pushed back on the SPLC\u2019s label and slammed it for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.frc.org\/issuebrief\/answering-the-southern-poverty-law-centers-attacks-upon-family-research-council\">falsely<\/a> characterizing its views.<\/p>\n<p>In 2012, a man named Floyd Corkins entered FRC\u2019s office while holding more than a dozen Chick-fil-A chicken sandwiches and shot a security guard. Corkins, who was later <a href=\"https:\/\/archives.fbi.gov\/archives\/washingtondc\/press-releases\/2013\/virginia-man-sentenced-to-25-years-in-prison-in-shooting-of-security-guard-at-family-research-council\">sentenced<\/a> to 25 years in prison, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/southern-poverty-law-center-christian-group-hate-map-attempted-terrorist-attack\">told<\/a> the FBI he attacked FRC because the SPLC designated it as an \u201canti gay group.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnyone who opposes the SPLC, including many Protestants, Catholics, Jews, Muslims, and traditional conservatives, is slandered and slapped with the \u2018extremist\u2019 label or even worse, their \u2018hate group\u2019 designation,\u201d Jerry Boykin, executive vice president of Family Research Council, told TheDCNF. \u201cAnd as we at FRC have experienced firsthand, SPLC inspired Floyd Corkins to commit a terrorist act against us nearly a decade ago. (Photo by Alex Wong\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>SPLC\u2019s collaboration with the \u201cnonpartisan\u201d committee comes as Republicans <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=W5XVkNk3_mk\">continue<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/stefanik.house.gov\/2022\/6\/icymi-stefanik-on-mornings-with-maria-the-american-people-deserve-transparency-on-january-6-not-speaker-pelosi-s-coverup\">criticize<\/a> its Democratic and Republican members for acting in a partisan fashion. House Republicans <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/15\/republicans-laughing-democrat-rep-jamie-raskin-january-6-committee-partisan-politics\/\">bursted<\/a> out laughing at Democratic Maryland Rep. Jamie Raskin in mid-June for claiming the committee is \u201cbipartisan.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Political action committees tied to the Democratic Party <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/10\/democrats-fundraising-jan-6-hearings\/\">sent<\/a> out multiple fundraising emails before hearings kicked off in June. At the same time, Democratic operatives and politicians <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/07\/democrats-new-york-times-jan-6-hearings\/\">told<\/a> The New York Times they think the hearings could boost voter turnout in the midterms.<\/p>\n<p>The Jan 6. committee did not respond to a request for comment, nor did the SPLC. ADF declined to comment.<\/p>\n<p>Offices for Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney and Illinois Rep.
