It\u2019s not clear why the Tesla CEO responded to Greenwald\u2019s article nearly 18 months after it was published to Substack.<\/p>\n<p>At the time, Greenwald noted that Democrat members of Congress summoned the CEOs of several Big Tech companies, including the heads of Twitter, Facebook, and Google, to question them about what content is allowed on their platforms.<\/p>\n<p>The Democrat chairs of two subcommittees in February 2021 issued a joint statement, the article noted, that they\u2019re attempting to find alleged\u00a0\u201cfalsehoods about the COVID-19 vaccine\u201d and \u201cdebunked claims of election fraud.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese online platforms have allowed misinformation to spread, intensifying national crises with real-life, grim consequences for public health and safety,\u201d they said, adding, \u201cThis hearing will continue the Committee\u2019s work of holding online platforms accountable for the growing rise of misinformation and disinformation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They continued to say that these companies have \u201cfailed to acknowledge the role they\u2019ve played in fomenting and elevating blatantly false information to its online audiences,\u201d according to the statement, \u201cwe must begin the work of changing incentives driving social media companies to allow and even promote misinformation and disinformation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But some tech CEOs previously noted that certain members of Congress alleged that threats to regulate social media firms under various regulatory and statutory threats may violate the Constitution.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUsing a combination of statutory inducements and regulatory threats,<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Elon Musk, who is poised to purchase Twitter, responded to an article about House Democrats\u2019 push to tighten rules over what people can post on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media websites.
