This came after police were called to the shooter&#8217;s family&#8217;s home.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">&#8220;In September 2019, ISP received a Clear and Present Danger report on the subject from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/us\/crime\/police-and-law-enforcement\">Highland Park Police Department.<\/a> The report was related to threats the subject made against his family,&#8221; Illinois State Police said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/highland-park-shooter-flagged-clear-present-danger-2019\">statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\"><\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">September 2019 saw police attend the Crimo home and asked the suspect if he was interested in harming himself. He said no, and the officers took his collection of knives. Later, the suspect&#8217;s father Bob Crimo, said that the knives were his and they were returned to the home.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<figure class=\"kg-card kg-embed-card\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Details from IL State Police regarding the Highland Park mass shooting. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/LJoXj6iSAp\">pic.twitter.com\/LJoXj6iSAp<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jordan Abudayyeh (@JordanAbudayyeh) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JordanAbudayyeh\/status\/1544494132588150784?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 6, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/figure>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">At the time, no arrests were made, and the family was &#8220;not willing to move forward on a complaint,&#8221; nor did they &#8220;provide information on threats of mental health that would have allowed law enforcement to take additional action.&#8221; A Firearms Restraining Order was not filed, &#8220;nor any order of protection.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">Three months after this incident, the suspect was able to get a Firearm Owners Identification card, sponsored by the suspect&#8217;s father, as the suspect was under 21.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">&#8220;The subject was under 21 and the application was sponsored by the subject\u2019s father. Therefore, at the time of the FOID application review in January of 2020, there was an insufficient basis to establish a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/us\/crime\">clear and present danger<\/a> and deny the FOID application,&#8221; police said.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">&#8220;The suspect went on to clear four background checks when purchasing firearms on June 9, 2020; on July 18 and July 31, 2020; and on September 20, 2021,&#8221; Fox News reports. The only criminal charge against the suspect prior to the mass shooting was for possession of tobacco in 2016.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">The parents of suspect <a href=\"https:\/\/thepostmillennial.com\/breaking-police-name-suspect-in-chicago-area-fourth-of-july-attack\">Robert Crimo III<\/a>, Bob Crimo Sr. and Denise Pesina, have retained counsel. The pair live in Highwood, Illinois, less than two miles from where the shooting occurred.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">The family of the suspected gunman in the Highland Park mass shooting on July 4 are speaking out in the wake of the massacre.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">A series of tweets were posted by Steve Greenberg, a criminal defense attorney of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenbergtriallawyers.com\/\">Greenberg Trial Lawyers,<\/a> the firm that was asked by Crimo\u2019s family to represent them on Monday following the shooting.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<figure class=\"kg-card kg-embed-card\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">and our own. Durkin told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox32chicago.com\/news\/highland-park-shooting-family-of-suspected-gunman-release-statement-retain-lawyers\">FOX 32<\/a> that he would not comment further until after Crimo\u2019s arraignment, which is scheduled for Wednesday. He added that he spoke to the family briefly by phone on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">The statement came the same day a former coach of Crimo&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/highland-park-shooting-suspects-parents-problem-says-former-coach\">said the parents were &#8220;a problem&#8221;<\/a> and always the last to pick him up from his afterschool sports program.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">Jeremy Cahnmann, who ran an afterschool sports program at Lincoln Elementary School said, &#8220;I remember the parents more than him because they were kind of a problem. There wasn&#8217;t a lot of love in that family.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">He added that Pesina &#8220;got into it once with one of the heads of the program, she was yelling. It seemed like her kids were a nuisance to her.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">According to her Facebook page, Pesina is an energy healer with her company Trilogy Energy Systems. Crimo&#8217;s father had a local sandwich shop, Bob&#8217;s Pantry and Deli, that has since closed.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">Neighbors told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/highland-park-shooting-suspects-parents-problem-says-former-coach\">Fox News<\/a> that the mom seemed unstable while the father was well liked in the community. &#8220;He was so nice, he always gave the kids free candy and treats.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">Crimo\u2019s uncle Paul spoke to a local outlet saying he was &#8220;deeply, deeply sorry&#8221; for the deadly attack. Paul Crimo <a href=\"https:\/\/chicago.suntimes.com\/2022\/7\/5\/23195422\/highland-park-parade-shooting-uncle-highwood-apartment-robert-crimo-iii\">told the Chicago Sun-Times<\/a> &#8220;He was always very respectable. I can\u2019t say nothing bad about him.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">Paul Crimo <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox32chicago.com\/video\/1088936?fbclid=IwAR2aQqXZCZ45Sc0ZV8o5AR4hBdsfFYFHn-EfgeFyqi-ZJVp8NfBVDSY2K5M\">told WFLD-TV<\/a> Monday after his nephew was named as a person of interest in the massacre that he lived with the accused killer and the 21-year-old\u2019s father, with Robert staying in a separate apartment in the back of the house.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">&#8220;I just want to say I\u2019m deeply, deeply sorry for everyone that lost their lives and got injured,&#8221; Paul Crimo said. &#8220;From the bottom of my heart, I\u2019m heartbroken, and my heart is shattered to hear this. I can\u2019t even believe it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">Paul Crimo said he and his brother, Robert Crimo Jr., who in 2019 unsuccessfully ran for mayor of Highland Park, &#8220;\u2026have a good character. Everybody loves us, and this just breaks my heart to hear about all of this.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">According to Paul Crimo, his nephew kept to himself, didn\u2019t go to college and was a &#8220;YouTube rapper&#8221; who previously worked at Panera but had been recently unemployed. &#8220;He\u2019s a real quiet kid, he keeps everything to himself, and he doesn\u2019t express himself out. He just, like, sits down on his computer; there\u2019s no, like, interaction between him and me, basically.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">Crimo was <a href=\"https:\/\/thepostmillennial.com\/breaking-highland-park-july-4-shooting-suspect-charged-with-7-counts-of-first-degree-murder\">charged Tuesday<\/a> with seven counts of first-degree murder for allegedly opening fire on an Independence Day parade in the Chicago suburb on Monday, killing seven people and wounding 30 others.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">Authorities said at a press conference Tuesday that they anticipate announcing more charges in the coming days. It was also revealed Tuesday by officials that the suspect was <a href=\"https:\/\/thepostmillennial.com\/breaking-highland-park-mass-shooting-suspect-had-two-previous-incidents-with-police-vowed-to-kill-everyone\">known to police due to several incidents<\/a>, including one instance where he said he wanted to &#8220;kill everyone.&#8221; The suspect purchased 5 guns prior to the shooting.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">According to investigators, Crimo evaded initial capture by <a href=\"https:\/\/thepostmillennial.com\/breaking-illinois-shooter-wore-womens-clothing-to-blend-in-with-crowd-after-massacre\">dressing as a woman<\/a> and blending in with the crowd fleeing the scene. Crimo was <a href=\"https:\/\/thepostmillennial.com\/breaking-suspect-robert-crimo-arrested-in-connection-to-highland-park-fourth-of-july-mass-shooting\">pulled over by police<\/a> approximately five miles north of the shooting, several hours after police released the man&#8217;s photo and an image of his silver Honda Fit.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">Investigators have not determined a motive for the attack according to Lake County Major Crime Task Force spokesman Christopher Covelli.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">Highland Park officials in 2013 approved a ban on semi-automatic weapons and large-capacity ammunition magazines.
