They refuse to explain how we violated these policies. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/7qFlmUfNnQ\">pic.twitter.com\/7qFlmUfNnQ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Seth Dillon (@SethDillon) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SethDillon\/status\/1542883647379873793?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 1, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>TikTok is owned by Chinese-based ByteDance. \u201cLast year, the Chinese government-owned firm acquired a minority stake in the company\u2019s main subsidiary, Beijing ByteDance Technology,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/tech\/big-tech\/article\/3145362\/chinese-government-takes-minority-stake-board-seat-tiktok-owner\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according<\/a> to the South China Morning Post,\u201d the Washington Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2022\/jul\/5\/christian-satire-site-babylon-bee-banned-without-e\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the new TikTok ban, Dillon <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/twitter-locks-out-babylon-bee-over-rachel-levine-tweet-the-bee-responds-truth-is-not-hate-speech\">revealed<\/a> in March that the Christian satire site had been locked out of its Twitter account for \u201chateful conduct.\u201d According to Dillon, the company wrote: \u201cOur support team has determined that a violation did take place, and therefore we will not overturn our decision.\u201d<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Update: Twitter has denied The Babylon Bee&#8217;s appeal. They wrote, &#8220;Our support team has determined that a violation did take place, and therefore we will not overturn our decision.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Seth Dillon (@SethDillon) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SethDillon\/status\/1506799894538895366?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 24, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Daily Wire previously reported that\u00a0Twitter\u2019s initial decision occurred in reaction to a Babylon Bee <a href=\"https:\/\/babylonbee.com\/news\/the-babylon-bees-man-of-the-year-is-rachel-levine\">piece<\/a> that jokingly named Assistant Secretary for Health Rachel Levine as \u201cMan of the Year.\u201d Levine \u2014 a transgender person who identifies as a woman \u2014 formerly served as secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Health and was appointed by President Joe Biden to serve in the federal government. Recently, Levine was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/usa-today-names-women-of-the-year-heres-one-of-them\">named<\/a>\u00a0one of USA Today\u2019s \u201cWomen of the Year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Twitter flagged the post for violating its policy against \u201chateful conduct.\u201d The rule states, \u201cYou may not promote violence against, threaten, or harass other people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability, or serious disease.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dillon wrote that the account could be restored 12 hours after the company deleted the tweet linking to the Levine article. Dillon, however, refused to comply. \u201cWe\u2019re not deleting anything. Truth is not hate speech,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/babylonbee.com\/news\/twitter-has-shut-down-the-bee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a>. \u201cIf the cost of telling the truth is the loss of our Twitter account, then so be it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite serving as a satirical platform, the Babylon Bee has taken a strong stand for objective truth. In his message to supporters in March, Dillon offered strong words regarding his company\u2019s stand.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe greatest accomplishment on Twitter isn\u2019t going viral, or building a huge following, or getting verified \u2013 it\u2019s getting banned for saying something true. We\u2019re proud to stand up for the truth, and we\u2019re deeply appreciative of each and every one of you who commits to standing with us,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The Babylon Bee\u2019s influence has also had an impact on Elon Musk\u2019s efforts to purchase Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt some point during Musk\u2019s process of deciding to buy Twitter, he got in touch with Dillon at the\u00a0Babylon Bee. Dillon will not say exactly what they discussed, but he will say that Musk wanted to confirm that Twitter had, in fact, banned the\u00a0Babylon Bee over the Levine tweet.
