CEO Albert Bourla and other top executives have said they plan to continue taking advantage of the COVID-19 market for the foreseeable future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHopefully, we could be giving it annually and maybe for some groups that are high-risk more often,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/s28.q4cdn.com\/781576035\/files\/doc_downloads\/2022\/Jan\/PFE-USQ_Transcript_2022-01-10.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bourla told investors<\/a> earlier this year, referring to COVID-19 booster shots and vaccines tailored to specific variants. \u201cThen you have the treatment [Paxlovid] that will, let\u2019s say, resolve the issues of those that are getting the disease.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some patients have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.health.com\/news\/cdc-paxlovid-rebound\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">experienced issues<\/a> with \u201crebound\u201d infections with Paxlovid, cases where they begin experiencing stronger symptoms again after completing their series of the antiviral pill.\u00a0That won\u2019t stop Pfizer from selling millions more doses though, executives said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople are going to get out there,\u201d the president of Pfizer Biopharmaceuticals Group, Angela Hwang, <a href=\"https:\/\/s28.q4cdn.com\/781576035\/files\/doc_financials\/2022\/q1\/PFE-USQ_Transcript_2022-05-03.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said in May<\/a>. \u201cWe know with all of that, infections are going to increase, and that\u2019s the role that Paxlovid can play.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In that investor call, Dr. Mikael Dolsten described immunocompromised patients as an \u201copportunity growth area.\u201d The company is now approaching Paxlovid\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.popsci.com\/health\/covid-rebound-on-paxlovid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">failure<\/a> to neutralize the virus as an opportunity to give patients more courses.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">The Biden administration has agreed to purchase 105 million doses of Pfizer\u2019s Covid-19 vaccine, the US Department of Health announced. The purchase includes both adult and child vaccines and is likely to be delivered early fall.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/uq9D9JBVxA\">https:\/\/t.co\/uq9D9JBVxA<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 CNN (@CNN) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CNN\/status\/1542496951903682560?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 30, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201c[They] may carry this virus for a very, very long time,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd we see that area as a real new opportunity growth area for Paxlovid to do very well, where you may need to take multiple courses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition to making more than a projected $50 billion in <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/06\/pfizer-moderna-profit-big-pharma-covid-19-coronavirus-vaccine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">revenue<\/a> in 2022 from the vaccine and Paxlovid, Pfizer is now exerting an outsized influence over federal agencies like the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), according to Kaiser.<\/p>\n<p>Leaders at the company have often been ahead of public health officials when it comes to guiding the response to the pandemic, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/khn.org\/news\/article\/pfizer-ceo-albert-bourla-covid-booster-evidence-lacking\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">when Bourla announced<\/a> in the summer of 2021, months before public health officials, that Americans would likely soon need a booster shot.<\/p>\n<p>Bourla was also several months <a href=\"https:\/\/khn.org\/news\/article\/pfizer-ceo-albert-bourla-yearly-covid-shots\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ahead of the FDA<\/a> in suggesting that Americans will need annual booster shots. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/26\/pfizer-albert-bourla-covid-coronavirus-vaccine-davos-wef\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Pfizer CEO Complains He Has Billions Of Vaccine Doses Sitting Around Because Nobody Wants Them)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Profitability could surge even further. <a href=\"https:\/\/s28.q4cdn.com\/781576035\/files\/doc_downloads\/event-announcement\/2021\/01\/12\/PFE-USQ_Transcript_2021-01-12.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bourla said<\/a> the price of both Pfizer\u2019s COVID-19 vaccine and Paxlovid will increase in the future, once society is past the pandemic period to \u201creflect the cutting-edge technology.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another way Pfizer has exerted influence over the federal government is via political donations. It <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.pfizer.com\/pfizercom\/investors\/corporate\/2019-2020_Pfizer_PAC_and_Corporate_Political_Contributions_Report.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">made around<\/a> $3 million in donations during the 2020 election cycle, more than any other drug company.
