But the pandemic gave workers the option of where to live, leading to a massive migration away from the large cities on the coast.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/red-states-faster-recovery-pandemic-08.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/red-states-faster-recovery-pandemic-08.jpg\" alt=\"Shoppers browse stores along the boardwalk in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.\" class=\"wp-image-22924499\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/red-states-faster-recovery-pandemic-08.jpg?quality=75&#038;strip=all&#038;w=1536 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/red-states-faster-recovery-pandemic-08.jpg?quality=75&#038;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/red-states-faster-recovery-pandemic-08.jpg?quality=75&#038;strip=all&#038;w=512 512w\" \/><\/a><figcaption>Shoppers browse stores along the boardwalk in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Bloomberg via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Researchers found that people were also motivated to relocate in areas where it was cheaper to buy a home.<\/p>\n<p>Housing in the 10 states that attracted the largest number of transplants from blue-leaning states costs 23% less compared to the 10 states that lost the largest number of residents, according to the right-leaning think tank the American Enterprise Institute.<\/p>\n<p>The 10 states that gained the largest number of migrants have an income tax rate of 3.8% \u2014 compared to 8% income tax rate for the 10 states that lost the biggest number of residents.<\/p>\n<p>Four of the states that gained residents \u2014 Florida, Texas, Tennessee, and Nevada \u2014 have no income tax.<\/p>\n<p>Not only are employees leaving for the Sun Belt, but their bosses are following them.<\/p>\n<p>Companies are also relocating from blue-leaning states to red states in order to take advantage of lower taxes.<\/p>\n<p>Tennessee, which has attracted firms from high-cost states, saw its economy grow by 8.6% last year \u2014 the highest in the nation.
