The unabashedly leftist organization doesn\u2019t even seem to recognize its own heterosexual male membership, at least according to one measure in circulation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNEA is a social justice union that is a majority female and trans and gender non-confirming folx,\u201d one New Business Initiative (NBI) says, calling to \u201cpublicly stand in defense of abortion\u201d and calling abortion limits an attack on \u201cstudents, families, and communities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another calls for \u201ca national policy of mandatory masking and COVID vaccines in schools, as well as high-quality virtual education for immuno-compromised students and all families who want it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A third says the NEA will publicize its commitment to \u201cyoung people\u2019s right to learn about and develop their own sexual orientation and gender identity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A fourth promotes language that is \u201cLGBTQIA+ inclusive,\u201d including using \u201cbirthing parent\u201d and \u201cnon-birthing parent\u201d instead of mother and father.<\/p>\n<p>One initiative calls for spending $140,000 on opposition research about the \u201clargest 25 organizations that are actively working to diminish a students\u2019 [sic] right to honesty in education, freedom of sexual identify [sic], and teacher autonomy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>NBIs are proposals that must be voted on by delegates in order to pass. NEA has previously been radical in what it passes. In 2019, it voted down a motion to \u201crededicate itself to the pursuit of increased student learning.\u201d It voted in favor, meanwhile, of \u201cdiscussions around support for reparations\u201d and incorporating \u201cthe concept of \u2018White Fragility\u2019 into NEA trainings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Each year\u2019s NBIs had previously been public on the NEA\u2019s website, it but abruptly yanked last year\u2019s offline after parents noticed that it has voted to approve a resolution to \u201coppose attempts to ban critical race theory\u201d and to provide a study that \u201ccritiques . . . capitalism . . . and other forms of power and oppression.\u201d That contradicted teachers\u2019 claim that CRT is not taught in schools.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s NBIs were uncovered by Terry Stoops, a conservative education expert in North Carolina.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">NBI 37 calls for nationwide mandatory masking and COVID vaccines <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/NEARA?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#NEARA<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/neara2022?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#neara2022<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/neara22?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#neara22<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/NEA?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#NEA<\/a> 3\/14 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/amN97etWtY\">pic.twitter.com\/amN97etWtY<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Terry Stoops (@TerryStoops) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TerryStoops\/status\/1544325118037565441?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 5, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The NEA did not return a request for comment on why the NBIs are no longer public, and on the results of any voting.<\/p>\n<p>The NEA has previously <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20100823105309\/http:\/\/www.nea.org\/tools\/17231.htm\">promoted<\/a> Saul Alinsky\u2019s \u201cRules for Radicals,\u201d highlighting his passage \u201cIf you have a vast organization, parade it before the enemy, openly show your power.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The NEA is the largest labor group in the U.S., with more than three million members, including first lady Jill Biden. Its president is Becky Pringle.<\/p>\n<p>As test scores have plummeted following teachers-union-demanded school shutdowns, the NEA urges placing less emphasis on test results that measure whether students are learning.
