In response, a Halifax representative named Lee said that the company strives for \u201cinclusion and equality.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Hi, I\u2019m Lee. One account holder told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-10972407\/Halifax-suffers-exodus-customers-staff-pronoun-policy.html\">The Daily Mail<\/a> that they have already pulled out \u201cinvestments and savings worth \u00a3450,000\u201d \u2014 nearly $550,000. Many others \u201csaid they are closing ISAs, cutting up credit cards or transferring balances to rivals,\u201d according to the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>Some high-profile customers followed suit. \u201cI\u2019m a homosexual man. I\u2019m appalled by your adoption of this homophobic, woman-hating claptrap, and by your attitude to customers making perfectly reasonable objections to it,\u201d Gareth Roberts, a former Doctor Who scriptwriter, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/OldRoberts953\/status\/1541870282637541378\">said<\/a> on Twitter, noting that he has been a customer with the bank since 1988.<\/p>\n<p>The willingness to cancel accounts appears to run in both directions. Halifax\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.halifax.co.uk\/who-we-are\/inclusion-and-diversity.html\">website<\/a>\u00a0explains that \u201ctransphobic\u201d behavior may lead the company to end relations with a customer \u2014 or even involve law enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe stand against discrimination and inappropriate behaviour in all forms, whether racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic or ableist, regardless of whether this happens in our branches, offices, over the phone or online on our social media channels,\u201d the website says. \u201cSuch action may include account closure or contacting the police if necessary.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, the United Kingdom has <a href=\"https:\/\/care.org.uk\/cause\/religious-liberty\/free-speech-law\">codified<\/a> criminal offenses for so-called hate speech. The Public Order Act of 1986, for example, bans individuals from using \u201cthreatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviours that causes, or is likely to cause, another person harassment, alarm or distress.\u201d The law covers language deemed to incite \u201cracial and religious hatred\u201d as well as \u201chatred on the grounds of sexual orientation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At least in the United States, consumers would prefer brands to stop preaching and pursue profits. In an exclusive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/poll-by-two-to-one-margin-investors-reject-woke-companies-pushing-political-causes\">Daily Wire poll conducted by Echelon Insights<\/a>, while 29% of respondents agreed it is a \u201cgood thing\u201d for companies to leverage their financial power for political or social means supported by executives, 58% \u2014 twice as many \u2014 said it is a \u201cbad thing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Vivek Ramaswamy, an entrepreneur who recently launched an anti-woke hedge fund, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/get-woke-go-broke-entrepreneur-predicts-a-reckoning-against-woke-capital\">told<\/a> \u201cMorning Wire\u201d that even for progressive investors who want to see their favorite causes advance, the best way to do so is not through a corporate entity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe way you would want to do it is to generate wealth for yourself that you can donate philanthropically,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd the way you generate wealth for yourself is through a capital market that most effectively enhances return.
