Wade<\/a> \u2014 the 1973 decision claiming that the Fourteenth Amendment of the Constitution protects abortion. In response, Google \u2014 a subsidiary of technology conglomerate Alphabet \u2014 said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.google\/technology\/safety-security\/protecting-peoples-privacy-on-health-topics\/\">blog post<\/a> that \u201cLocation History\u201d will be scrubbed after women visit facilities that carry out abortions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome of the places people visit \u2014 including medical facilities like counseling centers, domestic violence shelters, abortion clinics, fertility centers, addiction treatment facilities, weight loss clinics, cosmetic surgery clinics, and others \u2014 can be particularly personal,\u201d the company said. \u201cToday, we\u2019re announcing that if our systems identify that someone has visited one of these places, we will delete these entries from Location History soon after they visit. This change will take effect in the coming weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Google accounts for 92% of the global search engine market and processes an estimated 63,000 searches per second, according to data compiled by <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.hubspot.com\/marketing\/google-search-statistics\">Hubspot<\/a>. As of 2021, Alphabet <a href=\"https:\/\/www.macrotrends.net\/stocks\/charts\/GOOG\/alphabet\/number-of-employees\">retains<\/a> more than 156,000 employees.<\/p>\n<p>Likewise, Google users who track their menstrual cycles through platforms like Fitbit \u201ccan currently delete menstruation logs one at a time,\u201d while the company will also be \u201crolling out updates that let users delete multiple logs at once.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, several Republican-led states began implementing more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/breaking-multiple-states-ban-abortion-after-scotus-ruling\">regulations<\/a> on abortion. In response, Google affirmed that the company has a \u201clong track record of pushing back on overly broad demands from law enforcement\u201d and even \u201cobjecting to some demands entirely.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe take into account the privacy and security expectations of people using our products, and we notify people when we comply with government demands, unless we\u2019re prohibited from doing so or lives are at stake \u2014 such as in an emergency situation,\u201d the blog post continued. \u201cWe remain committed to protecting our users against improper government demands for data, and we will continue to oppose demands that are overly broad or otherwise legally objectionable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As abortion clinics in states like Texas and Louisiana have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/abortion-clinics-close-immediately-scramble-move-appointments-roe-ends-rcna35295\">closed their doors<\/a>, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) has floated opening new facilities on federal lands such as national parks \u2014 a proposal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/white-house-shuts-down-elizabeth-warrens-push-for-abortion-clinics-at-national-parks\">rejected<\/a> by the White House.<\/p>\n<p>In response to the Supreme Court\u2019s ruling, Google Chief People Officer Fiona Cicconi announced in an email obtained by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/06\/24\/google-memo-to-employees-on-roe-v-wade-overturn.html\">CNBC<\/a> that employees can apply for relocation to states with fewer regulations for abortion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a profound change for the country that deeply effects (sic) so many of us, especially women,\u201d Cicconi wrote. \u201cGooglers can also apply for relocation without justification, and those overseeing this process will be aware of the situation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEquity is extraordinarily important to us as a company, and we share concerns about the impact this ruling will have on people\u2019s health, lives and careers,\u201d the email continued. \u201cWe will keep working to make information on reproductive healthcare accessible across our products and continue our work to protect user privacy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Google joined other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/here-are-the-woke-businesses-vowing-to-cover-travel-costs-for-employees-abortion-tourism\">major corporations<\/a> in funding interstate travel to obtain abortions. \u201cTo support Googlers and their dependents, our US benefits plan and health insurance covers out-of-state medical procedures that are not available where an employee live and works,\u201d the memo said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Google announced on Friday that user data for visits to certain facilities, including abortion clinics, will be automatically deleted.
