Moves for federal mediation include &#8220;monitoring&#8221; by the Department of Education and calls for people to file formal complaints about the law&#8217;s restrictions with the Department&#8217;s Office for Civil Rights.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\"><\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>The Democrats&#8217; <a href=\"https:\/\/thepostmillennial.com\/aoc-declares-supreme-court-decision-illegitimate-at-pro-abortion-protest\">opposition<\/a> to states&#8217; rights recently came to a head with <a href=\"https:\/\/thepostmillennial.com\/death-to-scotus-spray-painted-in-portland-during-second-night-of-riots\">nationwide riots<\/a> and calls to dissolve the Supreme Court following the Court&#8217;s decision to make abortion a states&#8217; issue with the <a href=\"https:\/\/thepostmillennial.com\/breaking-supreme-court-overturns-roe-v-wade\">reversal of <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>Meltdown from Democrats over the Florida&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/thepostmillennial.com\/floridas-anti-groomer-law-protects-kids-and-parents-from-activist-educators\">anti-grooming<\/a> bill has been widespread since it was introduced. In April, former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki wept in a dramatic flare over the &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/thepostmillennial.com\/jen-psaki-weeps-over-cruelty-of-floridas-parental-rights-in-education-bill\">cruelty<\/a>&#8221; of the bill. The American Federation of Teachers president and advocate for <a href=\"https:\/\/thepostmillennial.com\/fauci-teachers-union-president-claim-there-isnt-enough-evidence-to-lift-school-mask-mandates\">masking children<\/a>, Randi Weingarten, said the bill was how &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/thepostmillennial.com\/floridas-anti-groomer-law-protects-kids-and-parents-from-activist-educators\">wars start<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>DeSantis&#8217; bill went into effect on July 1st, and was a pivotal part of the governor&#8217;s promise to strengthen parents&#8217; rights and curb talks about sexuality in elementary school classrooms. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.myfloridahouse.gov\/Sections\/Bills\/billsdetail.aspx?BillId=76545\">bill<\/a> is very clear in that it reinforces the &#8220;fundamental right of parents to make decisions regarding upbringing and control of their children.&#8221; <\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>The law does not ban sex education, but establishes that sex education should be taught in an age-appropriate way. Contrary to the infamous &#8220;Don&#8217;t Say Gay&#8221; nickname for the bill, the law does not prevent teachers from saying &#8220;gay,&#8221; or talking about being gay. <\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>Additionally, the law strengthens parental involvement in education by preventing schools from &#8220;discouraging or prohibiting parental notification and involvement in critical decisions affecting a student&#8217;s mental, emotional, or physical well-being.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>Despite the common-sense parameters in the law, the Biden White House claims the law is &#8220;part of a disturbing and dangerous nationwide trend&#8221; and is &#8220;cynically targeting LGBTQI+ students, educators, and individuals to score political points.&#8221; <\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>The White House statement added that, &#8220;there have been reports that &#8216;Safe Space&#8217; stickers are being taken down from classrooms. Teachers are being instructed not to wear rainbow clothing. LGBTQI+ teachers are being told to take down family photos of their husbands and wives\u2014cherished family photos like the ones on my own desk.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/townhall.com\/tipsheet\/saraharnold\/2022\/07\/01\/cue-the-lefts-meltdown-as-floridas-dont-say-gay-bill-takes-effect-today-n2609658\"><em>Townhall<\/em><\/a> reports, DeSantis responded to the accusations and said &#8220;The White House continues to lie about Florida&#8217;s work to protect children as young as five years old from sexualized lesson plans&#8230; [our] pro-parent education agenda stands in stark contrast to the policies coming out of Washington as Joe Biden tries to steal lunch money from our kids to push woke gender ideology.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>DeSantis was not speaking in hyperbole about Biden stealing lunch money from kids either.
