Juliet, Tennessee. It was at least the third time people have messed with the \u201cDevil Went Down to Georgia\u201d singer\u2019s final resting place, according to his surviving bandmates, who go by Team CDB and include Charlie Daniels Jr.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThanks to someone stealing a dogwood sapling &#038; watering bag this weekend (seriously!) &#038; someone gluing a spouse\u2019s military ID on the marble of Charlie\u2019s marker a few months ago, [Mount Juliet Police Department] will be increasing patrols near his grave &#038; video surveillance will soon be installed,\u201d the band members wrote on the Instagram site.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The Charlie Daniels Band said someone glued a spouse\u2019s military ID to the marble a few months ago and damaged the grave. Then, someone dug up a newly planted dogwood tree and took it.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/mat87nBt1K\">https:\/\/t.co\/mat87nBt1K<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ethan Illers (@EthanIllers_TV) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/EthanIllers_TV\/status\/1542534194395480065?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 30, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>No police reports were filed on the tree theft or military ID, Mt. Juliet Police Department Capt. Tyler Chandler said.\u00a0But the department was asked to increase patrol because of the incidents, and police are complying with the request.\u00a0In addition to stepped up police patrols, the late singer\u2019s family has installed surveillance equipment at the grave in hopes of deterring ghoulish vandals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hope Charlie Daniels haunted that person,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Astrosfan___\/status\/1541949059350507520?s=20&#038;t=ZoCCL767z6u5rb68o3A22Q\">tweeted a fan named Ashley<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat is wrong with people who disrespect the dead by vandalizing graves?\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/memf2011\/status\/1542344562110349312?s=20&#038;t=ZoCCL767z6u5rb68o3A22Q\">tweeted Mary Marks<\/a>. \u201cI just don\u2019t understand it! Sad that you have to put security cameras by final resting places.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniels had millions of fans, but was especially popular among military veterans, according to his family. Since his death two years ago, fans have left mementos at the site, but not all the observances have been respectful.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Recently] an expired military dependent (spouse\u2019s) ID of a woman who has since been divorced from her military spouse was superglued to the marble on the marker,\u201d Team CDB wrote in response to a <a href=\"https:\/\/tasteofcountry.com\/charlie-daniels-grave-vandalized\/?utm_source=tsmclip&#038;utm_medium=referral\">TasteofCountry.com article<\/a> about the ongoing vandalism. \u201cThe family welcomes anyone leaving items, what they do not want is to have items glued to the marker, or have any trees that the family planted nearby (with the full consent of the cemetery owner) dug up and stolen.<\/p>\n<p>Daniels, who died July 6, 2020 at age 83 in Nashville after suffering a hemorrhagic stroke, was known for his blazing fiddle playing and staunch patriotism.
