A meta-analytic examination<\/a>\u201c, the recent study sought to address the oft-touted claims of the perpetually offended \u2013 such as <a href=\"https:\/\/guardianlv.com\/2014\/11\/anita-sarkeesian-unmasked-feminist-icon-or-con-artist\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">disgraced<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2014\/11\/27\/an-open-letter-to-bloomberg-s-sheelah-kolhatkar-on-the-delicate-matter-of-anita-sarkeesian\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">critic<\/a> Anita Sarkeesian and numerous <a debunking the similar claims that <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.stetson.edu\/today\/2019\/08\/chris-ferguson-and-the-myth-of-video-game-violence\/\">violent video games inspire violent behavior<\/a>, James D.Sauer, Aaron Drummond, Julia Kneer, and Emily Lowe-Calverleyb, the study \u201cexplored the degree to which sexualization in games was related to both well-being\/body dissatisfaction and sexism\/misogyny\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBetter designed studies, and those that showed less evidence for researcher expectancy effects (for sexism\/misogyny outcomes), tended to find less evidence for effects,\u201d they explained. \u201cAs appears commonly in other realms of media effects, the evidence is weak that sexualized games influence player attitudes and behavior.\u201d<\/p>\n<div explains that these conclusions were derived from a \u201cmeta-analysis\u201d of eighteen other studies, all measuring the results of exposing a subject to video games both featuring and lacking sexualized content.<\/p>\n<p>Fifteen of these measured aggression toward women along with \u201csexist attitudes,\u201d while ten measured factors involved with depression, body image, or the effects of video games on players for two decades now, most of it on violence. I think most people have come to accept that there\u2019s no relationship between violent video games and aggression or violent crime (despite some holdouts including the [American Psychological Association]).\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_170469\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-170469\" class=\"size-full whether games either make male players more sexist toward women or whether women players experience more body dissatisfaction and other well-being concerns,\u201d Ferguson dismayed. \u201cIt\u2019s a much smaller research field than the violence field, so we hoped to bring some clarity to it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>(As alluded to by Ferguson, the theory that video games cause real life violence has been debunked in three studies <a href=\"https:\/\/nichegamer.com\/yet-another-study-concludes-gaming-does-not-cause-violence-below-threshold-for-even-a-small-effect\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">from<\/a> <a class=\"c-link\" href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/32777188\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-stringify-link=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/32777188\/\" data-sk=\"tooltip_parent\" data-remove-tab-index=\"true\">2020<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 one being a self-declared \u201c<a class=\"c-link\" href=\"https:\/\/nichegamer.com\/oxford-researchers-declare-no-link-between-violent-video-games-and-aggressive-teens-in-definitive-study\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-stringify-link=\"https:\/\/nichegamer.com\/oxford-researchers-declare-no-link-between-violent-video-games-and-aggressive-teens-in-definitive-study\/\" data-sk=\"tooltip_parent\" the video game [violence] debate,\u201d he continued. \u201cLots of hyperbole and moral outrage, but very little evidence that video games are causing any \u2018harm\u2019 to either male or female players.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a purely \u2018public health\u2019 issue, this doesn\u2019t appear to be much of a concern at all,\u201d Ferguson condemned. \u201cThat doesn\u2019t mean people can\u2019t advocate for better representations of females in games. The good news is that the higher quality studies were less likely to find evidence for negative effects than lower quality studies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn some cases, scholars probably interjected their personal moral opinions into the studies, if unintentionally,\u201d he proposed. \u201cGranted it\u2019s still a fairly small research area, but this initial data has been so underwhelming that intended vision of series director Hideki Kamiya, the studio was able to produce <a href=\"https:\/\/www.metacritic.com\/game\/pc\/bayonetta\">two<\/a> quality <a
