The student \u2014 a biological female who initially emailed Vagos begging for a second chance to pass his class \u2014 asked to be addressed using \u201che\/him\u201d pronouns \u201cwhen in absence of parental figures,\u201d according to the communications reviewed by the Daily Caller.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI understand that my grade in your class is incredibly low and that I never truly got any important work done during the semester,\u201d the student emailed Vagos. \u201cWith the end of the year being today, I realize my mistake and I\u2019m asking you for an extended semester to make up the credits I have lost. I\u2019m determined to work as hard and as efficiently in your course as I can, and have the motivation to participate in your class.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Vagos responded using the student\u2019s preferred name and said he removed a couple of \u201czero credit assignments\u201d attributed to the student to pass the class. He went on to provide the student with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.transgendertrend.com\/detransition\/\">information<\/a> on detransitioners and wished the student the best of luck.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd as much as I don\u2019t want to interfere in anything that isn\u2019t my business, given the P.S. of the email I thought it might be helpful for me to provide a link regarding the transitioning process that has become a recent trend among young people in the United States,\u201d Vagos\u2019 email read. \u201cI typically wouldn\u2019t do this, although you did mention that you are using an alternate name and gender outside of your parents\u2019 presence, which tells me that this might not be the result of a consensus of agreement between you and them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn any event, please forgive my presumptuousness on my part regarding this issue. But I am a firm believer in making fully informed decisions \u2026 especially when they may completely and permanently alter one\u2019s life,\u201d the teacher continued.<\/p>\n<p>The email exchange took place in May of 2021, according to the emails. However, the district did not reprimand Vagos until a parent and student complained that the educator was not wearing a mask in the classroom and one student felt the teacher was too conservative.<\/p>\n<p>Vagos underwent a formal grievance process with the district in December 2021. He was represented by the local teachers union, whose representatives use preferred pronouns in email signatures.<\/p>\n<p>Jefferson County Public Schools sent Vagos a letter of reprimand arguing that he violated the district\u2019s policy of \u201charassment of students based on sexual orientation.\u201d Vagos was told he can no longer use the word \u201ctrend\u201d when discussing transgender ideology, according to the reprimand letter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour response to this student and the provision of this link imparts a lack of support and reduces a student\u2019s self-identification as being transgendered as a \u201ctrend\u201d rather than something real the student is experiencing,\u201d the letter read.<\/p>\n<p>A substitute teacher was provided in Vagos\u2019 absence as he underwent a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSd_09HgnPpFJ5UHId2o9NddMGvfIciXei9ohxDZsdHq-rgw1Q\/viewform\">Gender Inclusion 101<\/a>\u201d training provided by the Jefferson County Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion team. Videos from the training included \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=XUN75MGqdpU\">Avery\u2019s Story<\/a>,\u201d \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=JQn11NaUZ74\">Mom, I\u2019m Not A Girl: Raising a Transgender Child<\/a>,\u201d and \u201cWhat is a Gender Inclusive School?\u201d Another training was provided by \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.genderspectrum.org\/articles\/framework-for-gender-inclusive-schools\">Gender Spectrum<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n[embedded content]\n<p>Vagos has been at Conifer High School in Jefferson County for 15 years and described himself as a \u201cfairly outspoken conservative at the school.\u201d He is actively involved in sponsoring a Young America\u2019s Foundation club at the school. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/12\/transgender-youth-lgbtq\/\">(RELATED: America Has More Transgender Youth Than Ever, Study Says)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Jefferson County Public Schools began instructing teachers in 2021 not to inform parents if their child shows persistent signs of gender confusion, according to the district\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/colorado-school-district-instructs-teachers-to-avoid-informing-parents-if-their-child-shows-persistent-gender-confusion\">Toolkit for Supporting Transgender &#038; Gender Expansive\/Nonconforming Students<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The guide tells educators to inform parents about persistent gender confusion \u201cat the elementary level, though the standards shift for students in middle and high school.
