There is no evidence he was shot.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Stenger resigned his position as the Senate\u2019s sergeant-at-arms following last year\u2019s storming of the U.S. capitol, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/06\/29\/us\/politics\/michael-stenger-dead.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The New York Times<\/a>. He passed away on June 27 at the age of 71, the outlet reported.<\/p>\n<p>A post shared on Facebook claims he was actually murdered. \u201cHe was shot and killed!\u201d reads part of the June 28 post. \u201cYep, gunned down crossing the street to go home! The shooting was partially captured on surveillance video from cameras on a nearby building!!\u201d the post reads. \u201cASK YOURSELF: WHY would someone want Michael Stenger taken out? It shouldn\u2019t be to hard to figure out the answer\u2014\u2014at all!!!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This claim is false, however. Two anonymous sources familiar with the matter <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/mitch-mcconnell-obituaries-us-secret-service-congress-government-and-politics-488a80e9a2869642871821c111b5169e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">told<\/a> The Associated Press that Stenger\u2019s death was the result of natural causes. One source said the former Senate sergeant-at-arms had received a cancer diagnosis and had been sick for some time, according to the outlet. Fox News\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ChadPergram\/status\/1541800474768187398?s=20&amp;t=1frY5-_RgoYE3HGOg26DmQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chad Pergram<\/a> likewise reported that Stenger had cancer.<\/p>\n<p>Check Your Fact found no credible news reports about Stenger being murdered, despite the claim that part of the alleged incident occurred in public and appeared on surveillance footage. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2021\/12\/30\/fact-check-mafia-assassins-pope-francis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Did Mafia Assassins Descend On Rome To Avenge Pope Francis\u2019 Death?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is not the first time misinformation related to Jan. 6, 2021 has spread online.
