The move comes amid record gas prices and ongoing energy insecurity for many Americans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven as Americans are struggling with $5 gas and record-breaking inflation, team Biden continues to double down on their political commitments to \u2018end all fossil fuels,&#8217;\u201d former EPA Chief of Staff Mandy Gunasekara told The Daily Caller News Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>Though regulators would have three years to propose solutions to lower ozone levels if the field is found to be in violation, regulatory uncertainty is likely to disincentivize new permits and drilling in the oil field, Bloomberg <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-06-24\/world-s-biggest-oil-field-permian-basin-faces-new-air-pollution-curbs#xj4y7vzkg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The move prompted criticism from Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, who demanded the EPA drop the proposal.<\/p>\n<p>Abbott claimed the EPA\u2019s proposal would further raise gas prices for consumers when fuel <a href=\"https:\/\/gasprices.aaa.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">already costs<\/a> more than $5 per gallon in much of the country, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/gov.texas.gov\/uploads\/files\/press\/O-BidenJoseph202206271464.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">letter<\/a> he sent to the administration Monday.
