Marsha Blackburn<\/a> (R-TN) introduced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackburn.senate.gov\/2022\/6\/blackburn-backs-national-guard-members-set-to-be-fired-over-covid-vaccine-refusal-in-new-legislation\">legislation<\/a> on the Guardsmen\u2019s deadline that would ban federal funds used to require a National Guard member to receive the coronavirus vaccine, and prohibit the Secretary of Defense from taking any adverse actions against Guard members who did not comply with the mandate.<\/p>\n<p>Blackburn\u2019s legislation stands as a guard for the 40,000 Guardsmen who would face termination and ultimately threaten U.S. national security.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur servicemembers are the bedrock of America,\u201d Blackburn told <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/30\/marsha-blackburn-introduce-legislation-backing-national-guard-members-set-fired-covid-vaccine-refusal\/\">The Daily Caller<\/a> before introducing the legislation. \u201cFiring 40,000 Guardsmen for refusing the COVID vaccine would be both a complete disgrace and a threat to our national security.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am honored to stand beside our National Guardsmen and women by introducing this legislation to protect them from President Biden\u2019s forever pandemic,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Blackburn joins several House Republicans who have proposed laws to end COVID mandates, masks, and vaccines.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS), a physician, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RogerMarshallMD\/status\/1542167230628171777\">said<\/a> on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/twitter\">Twitter<\/a> that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/joe-biden\">President Biden<\/a> \u201cis allowing illegal immigrants of unknown vax status to invade our country every day but is still willing to fire up to 40,000 American heroes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tennessee National Guard members urged the state\u2019s governor, Bill Lee, Wednesday to take action against the mandate and sue the federal government if necessary.<\/p>\n<p>Stars and Stripes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stripes.com\/theaters\/us\/2022-06-30\/tennessee-national-guard-vaccine-mandate-6508334.html#.Yr3okj4d4Vw.twitter\">reported<\/a> Guard members along with their families and friends delivered a petition to Lee\u2019s office at the capitol.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn June 30, hundreds of your Tennessee National Guard soldiers \u2013 under an illegal, improper order by the Biden administration\u2019s Department of Defense in defiance of natural law and the United States Constitution \u2013 are scheduled to be dismissed from service due to refusal to accept a COVID-19 vaccination,\u201d the petition states. \u201cIt is your duty before God and the citizens of the great state of Tennessee, sir, to help these men and women. Please stop them from being fired, sir!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Data from The Associated Press shows approximately 30% of the guardsmen in six different states and more than 10% still in 43 other states still need the shot. Roughly 7,000 have asked for exemptions, mainly for religious purposes, and about 14,000 soldiers simply refused to bow down to the mandate altogether.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you\u2019re looking at 40,000 soldiers that potentially are in that unvaccinated category, absolutely there\u2019s readiness implications on that and concerns associated with that,\u201d said Lt. Gen. Jon Jensen, director of the Army National Guard in an Associated Press <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/covid-health-army-only-on-ap-government-and-politics-41f0f24bd26b2f8c4284e1fd396f88b8\">interview<\/a>. \u201cThat\u2019s a significant chunk.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jensen said military officials would give \u201cevery soldier every opportunity\u201d to get vaccinated to continue their military career.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re not giving up on anybody until the separation paperwork is signed and completed,\u201d he said. \u201cThere\u2019s still time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Well, that time has expired.<\/p>\n<p>Pentagon officials said after the June 30 deadline that National Guard soldiers wouldn\u2019t receive payment by the federal government when activated on federal status \u2014 including monthly drills and their annual two-week training period. Even those assigned to work on the southern border or COVID-related missions in various states either have to get fully vaccinated or lose out on payment and participation.<\/p>\n<p>However, states that don\u2019t require the COVID jab could still allow activated duty members to serve in their respective states and receive state payments.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/national-security\/defense-secretary-austin-orders-national-guard-get-vaccinated-face-los-rcna7131\">ordered<\/a> every service member of the U.S. Military to get vaccinated, saying it is critical to maintaining the health and readiness of the force, The Associated Press reported.
