The pump can be cumbersome when transporting a patient within a hospital, or to a major stroke center for treatment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tenecteplase, though, \u201ccan be administered as a single immediate dose,\u201d said Dr. Rick Swartz, MD, Ph.D., clinician-researcher at the University of Toronto, co-principal investigator, and stroke neurologist at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s a big advantage, saving critical time and complication,\u201d he said. \u201cTNK could potentially be administered wherever the patient is seen first, at a medical center or small hospital.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ualberta.ca\/folio\/2022\/06\/u-of-a-researchers-with-the-edmonton-stroke-program-contribute-to-major-advance-in-treatment-of-stroke.html\">Brian Buck<\/a>, a neurology professor in the University of Alberta\u2019s Faculty of Medicine &#038; Dentistry and co-author of the study, emphasized that the tenecteplase \u201ccan be administered in a single bolus of drug in less than a minute wherever the patient is first seen, without requiring an infusion pump.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This is beneficial to mobile stroke units, too.\u00a0\u201cThis means the crew can then attend to moving the patients to the hospital,\u201d Buck said, adding,\u00a0\u201cGoing forward, tenecteplase will be an important medical therapy that will hopefully be available to Albertans who are suffering from an ischemic stroke.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, according to the University of Alberta,\u00a0the researchers \u201cdeveloped a simple consent and enrolment process that included a mobile app that allowed them to enrol patients quickly and safely.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was important during the peak of COVID since it was essential to minimize return visits to the hospital and contact between study patients and staff,\u201d Buck said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/unprecedented-remarkable-cancer-study-leaves-every-patient-cancer-free\">\u2018Unprecedented\u2019, \u2018Remarkable\u2019: Cancer Study Leaves Every Patient\u00a0Cancer-Free<\/p>\n<p><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A drug commonly used to bust clots for heart attacks has been shown to be an effective and efficient treatment for strokes, researchers say.
