One video obtained by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/06\/29\/norwegian-cruise-line-ship-hits-iceberg-near-alaska\/\">New York Post<\/a> showed footage of the growler \u2014 which typically span less than 6.6 feet across and float with less than 3.3 feet showing above water, according to the National Snow and Ice Data Center.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s what hit the boat,\u201d the passenger said. \u201cOh, my goodness, I\u2019m shaking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another passenger onboard, Jennifer Lopez \u2014 not the artist \u2014 told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/weather-news\/norwegian-cruise-ship-hits-iceberg-alaska\">Fox Weather<\/a> that the impact knocked her over while jogging on the vessel\u2019s running track.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a pretty hard hit,\u201d Lopez said. \u201cIt seems that we sliced the glacier right through the middle. It was frightening, but was more frightening was that we continued to sail.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another passenger told the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.juneauempire.com\/news\/iceberg-ahead-passengers-remain-stuck-on-a-norwegian-cruise-line-ship-in-juneau-after-it-struck-ice\/\">Juneau Empire<\/a> that the vessel came to a complete stop from the impact.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a scary experience,\u201d Alicia Amado said while describing the impact producing a \u201cbig noise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Norwegian Cruise Line said to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cruisehive.com\/norwegian-cruise-line-cancels-remainder-of-voyage-after-ship-hits-iceberg\/75287\">Cruise Hive<\/a>\u00a0that while transiting to its destination, dense fog engulfed the ship, which limited its visibility, resulting in the cruise line making contact with a growler.<\/p>\n<p>The cruise line told Fox Weather that the ship sailed to Juneau, Alaska, for further assessment, where officials decided to cut short the scheduled voyage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe cruise scheduled to embark on June 30, 2022, will be canceled so that the necessary repairs can be made,\u201d the cruise line said. \u201cThe ship was given clearance by the United States Coast Guard and other local maritime authorities to return to Seattle at reduced speed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>U.S. Coast Guard Public Affairs Specialist Melissa McKenzie told Fox Weather that the \u201cNorwegian Sun sustained damage to the starboard bow (right, front) of the ship after making contact with an iceberg \u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cContracted divers along with a member from the Coast Guard Sector Juneau Prevention Team assessed the damage and deemed it seaworthy to make way to its home port in Seattle for repairs,\u201d McKenzie said.<\/p>\n<p>Passengers sailed at a reduced speed, making it back to their final destination.
