Ron DeSantis as a possible running mate in a potential 2024 presidential bid.<\/p>\n<p>When asked in a Newsmax interview Thursday about a Trump\u2013DeSantis ticket, Trump said he has a good relationship with the Republican governor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, I get along with him,\u201d Trump said. \u201cI was very responsible for his success, because I endorsed him and he went up like a rocket ship.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump was referring to his 2018 endorsement of DeSantis. And after Trump\u2019s endorsement, DeSantis\u2019s support rapidly increased before he defeated\u00a0Democrat Andrew Gillum.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, DeSantis has become one of the most popular Republican officials in the country, particularly for his handling of COVID-19 vaccines and pandemic-related rules in Florida. The Florida governor has often downplayed suggestions that he run for president in 2024, saying he\u2019s more focused on running the state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know if Ron is running, and I don\u2019t ask him,\u201d Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/i-would-win-trump-says-over-potential-gop-runoff-with-desantis_4547050.html\">told<\/a> the New Yorker magazine in mid-June. \u201cIt\u2019s his prerogative. I think I would win,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Trump, meanwhile, has not made a definitive statement about running in 2024, although he\u2019s strongly hinted at the possibility in speeches. Last year, the former president said he would wait until the 2022 midterms are over, citing laws around campaign finance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe information that I\u2019ve gotten the last several weeks is Trump is definitely running,\u201d longtime Republican campaign strategist Rollins told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/were-not-working-at-all-against-trump-says-head-of-pac-backing-desantis-2024-run_4547628.html\">The Epoch Times<\/a> on June 14. Rollins several weeks before that created the \u201cReady for Ron\u201d PAC to support a possible DeSantis presidential candidacy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re not working at all against Trump,\u201d Rollins told The Epoch Times, adding,\u00a0\u201cAt that point in time, I didn\u2019t know if he [Trump] was running or not. What I\u2019ve said since has made it clear is that he [DeSantis] won\u2019t run against Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The former commander-in-chief, who is 76,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/trump-reveals-what-will-stop-him-from-running-in-2024_4389968.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">noted<\/a>\u00a0that his health and age could play a role in a possible 2024 bid.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou always have to talk about health. You look like you\u2019re in good health, but tomorrow, you get a letter from a doctor saying come see me again,\u201d Trump told the Washington Post in April. \u2018That\u2019s not good when they use the word \u2018again,\u2019\u201d Trump added, saying at the time that he is in good health.<\/p>\n<p>And earlier this year, Trump was asked again about whether he would take former Vice President Mike Pence as a 2024 running mate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think the people would accept it,\u201d the former president told the paper. \u201cMike and I had a great relationship except for the very important factor that took place at the end.
