EPA, court file\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/search.aspx?filename=\/docket\/docketfiles\/html\/public\/20-1530.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">20-1530<\/a>. Roberts was joined by the court\u2019s other five conservatives. The court\u2019s three liberal justices dissented.<\/p>\n<p>While \u201ccapping carbon dioxide emissions at a level that will force a nationwide transition away from the use of coal to generate electricity may be a sensible \u2018solution to the crisis of the day,\u2019\u201d Roberts wrote, quoting a 1992 precedent, \u201cit is not plausible that Congress gave EPA the authority to adopt on its own such a regulatory scheme in Section 111(d)\u201d of the Clean Air Act.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA decision of such magnitude and consequence rests with Congress itself, or an agency acting pursuant to a clear delegation from that representative body,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The decision will have a wide-reaching impact on the EPA\u2019s authority, forcing it to ask Congress for permission to regulate carbon dioxide emissions in the future.<\/p>\n<p> Republicans Declare Victory <\/p>\n<p>Republicans quickly applauded the decision as a victory over the EPA\u2019s seizure of power outside the scope of congressionally-approved laws and as a victory for American energy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI applaud the Supreme Court\u2019s decision to limit the EPA\u2019s powers,\u201d wrote Rep.
