In it, Trump was depicted as ordering White House staff to create an entire TV channel devoted to gorillas. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo appease Trump, White House staff compiled a number of gorilla documentaries into a makeshift gorilla channel, broadcast into Trump\u2019s bedroom from a hastily-constructed transmission tower on the South Lawn,\u201d read an excerpt of the fabricated story published by the Twitter account @pixelatedboat. \u201cHowever, Trump was unhappy with the channel they had created, moaning that it was \u2018boring\u2019 because \u2018the gorillas aren\u2019t fighting.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite being explicit satire, the fable was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/story\/2018\/01\/05\/trump-gorilla-channel-parody-326374\">convincing<\/a> to many of the same people on the internet who had been persuaded by the media since the start of Trump\u2019s 2016 campaign that he is a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=XmUqzJnf8zY\">comic book villain<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The latest conspiracies peddled by the Jan. 6 Committee this week, however, make the fictional tale of Trump\u2019s beloved gorilla channel, posted below in full, appear far more believable. The tall tales coming from the show trial are just as farcical.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><\/figure>\n<p>On Tuesday, the nine-member panel investigating the regime\u2019s political dissidents brought forward Cassidy Hutchinson, a former aide to White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows. <\/p>\n<p>Over her more than two hours of public testimony, Hutchinson gave lawmakers graphic but far-fetched details about a president gone mad as the riot unfolded on Capitol Hill. At one point, she testified with <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/06\/30\/the-media-should-save-the-star-witness-label-for-people-who-actually-witnessed-things\/\">third-hand hearsay<\/a> that Trump allegedly tried to violently hijack the presidential limousine to drive himself to the congressional chambers, saying \u201cI\u2019m the f\u2019ing president, take me up to the Capitol now,\u201d and lunging at the throat of his head of security.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"lTuAXrqahm1YbijdCRP8OSNI76W5MJF\"><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Cassidy Hutchinson testifies that she was told that as then-President Donald Trump was being driven back to the White House after the Jan. 6 rally that he demanded to be taken to the Capitol and tried to grab the steering wheel from a Secret Service agent. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/JefVhEsY0b\">https:\/\/t.co\/JefVhEsY0b<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/uUyQcnSlLG\">pic.twitter.com\/uUyQcnSlLG<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 The Associated Press (@AP) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AP\/status\/1541847020272484354?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 28, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The new narrative built entirely on uncorroborated hearsay <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/06\/29\/new-j6-narrative-about-trump-and-secret-service-collapses-hours-after-tuesday-hearing\/\">fell apart<\/a> hours after Hutchinson\u2019s performance when her sources decided to go on the record to refute her testimony. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PeterAlexander\/status\/1541910389289635841?s=20&#038;t=Tvaip-48DtkZminETvp-CQ\">NBC<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NicoleSganga\/status\/1541921124031799297?s=20&#038;t=R3GbmqSnH0Gk7E2O4tG9lA\">CBS<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GabbyOrr_\/status\/1541940680716599298?s=20&#038;t=d6PXc2uG3O_9NIgSeTOONA\">CNN<\/a> each reported that Hutchinson\u2019s sources were prepared to go under oath to testify that nothing she said ever happened. <\/p>\n<p>When repeatedly pressed for corroboration on CNN, Jan. 6 Committee member Jamie Raskin, D-Md., stood by her testimony.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, the story that she told is the evidence that I\u2019m aware of,\u201d Raskin said. \u201cAnd I\u2019ve not seen anything to contradict it.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><\/figure>\n<p>Tuesday\u2019s unsubstantiated tales aside, Hutchinson\u2019s debunked testimony is far from the only time the Jan. 6 Committee has made up claims to perpetuate its chosen narrative. In December, committee members deceptively manipulated text messages twice, and Cheney fabricated a false timeline of Jan. 6 to indict Trump as complicit in the chaos. Just last week, the committee lied about a DOJ attorney\u2019s involvement in the president\u2019s efforts to halt the certification of the election.<\/p>\n<p>The entire Jan. 6 Committee is built on a <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/01\/06\/one-year-ago-today-a-new-hoax-was-born\/\">conspiracy<\/a>, weaponizing the levers of government after two failed impeachments to smear political dissidents as having orchestrated a fascist plot to take over the U.S. government. Trump, the story goes, corralled his supporters in Washington, inflamed the mob, and ordered them to overthrow Congress in a failed coup. Cheney painted this exact picture in a <a href=\"https:\/\/cheney.house.gov\/2021\/01\/12\/cheney-i-will-vote-to-impeach-the-president\/\">statement<\/a> announcing her intent to impeach. Never mind that the president explicitly instructed his supporters gathered in the capital to protest \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/01\/12\/no-donald-trump-did-not-incite-an-insurrection\/\">peacefully<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump, however, is no stranger to opponents concocting conspiracies to indict him, whether it be <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2020\/08\/20\/twitter-censors-trump-tweets-but-allows-viral-post-office-conspiracy-theories-to-flourish\/\">allegations<\/a> of manipulating the Postal Service to rig the election or serving in the Oval Office as a covert Russian agent. The Jan. 6 Committee has merely become the Democrats\u2019 latest hoax, capitalizing on a friendly press eager to pass on portrayals of the former president as being engaged in ludicrous behavior no matter how credible. And yet, their base will still believe what they\u2019re told.<\/p>\n<p>At this rate, the Jan. 6 investigators might as well study whether Trump actually watched the gorilla channel \u2014 an equally unbelievable tale. News of the channel might not highlight any episodes of presidential malfeasance, but neither does the president telling a crowd of supporters to protest peacefully. Scenes from Animal Planet would just make far better television than the slow-going show trials, where <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/06\/07\/j6-profiteers-bribe-americans-to-care-about-sham-show-trial-with-watch-parties-and-free-ice-cream\/\">ice cream<\/a> is given out freely but adversarial questioning is banned. <\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n<p>\n  Tristan Justice is the western correspondent for The Federalist.
