Jackson<\/em> decision. <\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s been nearly two months since someone attempted to compromise the integrity of the judicial process by <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/05\/03\/before-finally-overturning-roe-supreme-court-must-block-yet-another-insurrection-attempt\/\">leaking<\/a> Justice Samuel Alito\u2019s draft opinion overturning <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em>. The damaging <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/05\/03\/before-finally-overturning-roe-supreme-court-must-block-yet-another-insurrection-attempt\/\">consequences<\/a> of that attack on the court can\u2019t be overstated, and it\u2019s a scandal of its own that we still don\u2019t know who the leaker was, since Chief Justice Roberts passed the investigation to the same FBI that went <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/06\/17\/a-month-and-a-half-after-dobbs-leak-fbi-says-they-will-investigate-attacks-on-pro-life-groups-pregnancy-centers\/\">44 days<\/a> before agreeing to even investigate attacks on pro-life clinics when pressed by The Federalist.<\/p>\n<p>That said, the leaker, who was lauded by many Democrats as a \u201cbrave clerk\u201d who \u201crisked his or her career\u201d to \u201cwarn the country,\u201d turned out to be a contender for the most useless self-immolation in America. His or her actions did absolutely nothing but further reveal the left\u2019s contempt for our republic and its laws anytime they stand firm against the left\u2019s agenda.<\/p>\n<p>Justices Alito, Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, Amy Coney Barrett, and Brett Kavanaugh, who comprised the majority in the <em>Dobbs<\/em> opinion, refused to be cowed into backing down. They refused despite intimidation efforts at their family homes, threats against their lives and their children, a pressure campaign from Democrats like Sen. Chuck Schumer who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/nation\/2020\/03\/05\/schumer-trump-supreme-court\/\">told<\/a> Gorsuch and Kavanaugh they would \u201cpay the price\u201d if they challenged abortion precedent, and even an assassination attempt on Kavanaugh\u2019s life.<\/p>\n<p>If the leak\u2019s intent was to intimidate the justices into changing their decision, it failed. If it was to spark a public pressure campaign with the purpose of convincing the justices to decide cases based on public opinion rather than the Constitution, it failed. If it was to inspire Congress to attempt to preemptively overrule the bench by passing a radical bill allowing abortion to the point of birth for virtually any reason, it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2022\/05\/11\/senate-doomed-vote-roe-abortion-rights-00031732\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">failed<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>The Supreme Court as an institution \u2014 one of the few that has weathered the public decline in institutional faith in recent years \u2014 was not destroyed by the leaker\u2019s act of mutinous stupidity. Nor, against the leaker\u2019s best efforts, was the integrity of its ruling.<\/p>\n<p>The one thing the leaker <em>did<\/em> accomplish, however, was giving everyone one more indicator of how quickly leftists who declare themselves the \u201cdefenders of democracy\u201d will reject the constitutional process when they don\u2019t get their way. It was far from the first, after four years of incessant whines about a concocted Russia hoax when Donald Trump won the White House. <\/p>\n<p>Nor was it the last \u2014 since the final <em>Dobbs<\/em> decision dropped we\u2019ve seen renewed calls from Democrats and leftist media activists to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenMarkey\/status\/1540348991677792257\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pack the court<\/a> or simply start <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/reporters-white-house-simply-ignore-scotus-decisions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ignoring<\/a> its rulings, not to mention the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/06\/27\/pro-abortion-demonstrators-unleash-weekend-of-arson-vandalism-and-insurrection-after-dobbs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">vandalism, arson, and insurrection<\/a> that broke out in states across the country from people who refused to accept the court\u2019s decision. The leaker and many others on the left have shown time and again that \u201cnorms\u201d only matter to them when those norms can be manipulated to further an agenda \u2014 the minute they stand in the way, it\u2019s curtains.<\/p>\n<p>The other alternative, of course, is that the leaker simply sacrificed his or her legal career in a bid to get a job at CNN.
