Kelly<\/a> was sentenced to 30 years in prison today following a positive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/sexual-abuse\">conviction<\/a> on charges of sex trafficking and racketeering.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. District Judge Ann Donnelly handed down the sentence following a three hour hearing, Fox News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/entertainment\/r-kelly-sentenced-prison\">reported<\/a>. Kelly showed no outward reaction and did not address the court after sentencing. The victims held hands as the decision was read.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike Kelly, the victims were not silent during the hearing. \u201cYou made me do things that broke my spirit. I literally wished I would die because of how low you made me feel,\u201d one woman said while addressing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/music-industry\">recording artist<\/a>. \u201cDo you remember that?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another victim tearfully said that Kelly being sentenced made her believe in justice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI once lost hope,\u201d she said to the court, \u201cbut you restored my faith.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was afraid, naive and didn\u2019t know to handle the situation,\u201d she continued, speaking of the assault that occurred when she was a teen. \u201cSilence is a very lonely place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/r-kelly-facing-up-to-25-years-in-prison-for-decades-of-crime-that-were-fueled-by-narcissism\">reported<\/a> that a jury found the recording artist, whose full name is Robert Sylvester Kelly, guilty in September 2021 after a month-long trial that included no fewer than 50 separate witness testimonies.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors recounted the singer\u2019s \u201cdecades of crime\u201d and \u201ccallous disregard for the very real effects that his crimes had on his victims.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>They were seeking at least 25 years in prison for Kelly, with as much as a life sentence on the line for violating the Mann Act, which prohibits transportation across state lines of women and girls for an \u201cimmoral purpose,\u201d per the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/06\/29\/r-kelly-may-face-life-in-prison-at-sex-trafficking-sentencing\/\">New York Post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe defendant\u2019s decades of crime appear to have been fueled by narcissism and a belief that his musical talent absolved him of any need to conform his conduct \u2014 no matter how predatory, harmful, humiliating or abusive to others \u2014 to the strictures of the law,\u201d prosecutors wrote in the filing.<\/p>\n<p>They went on, saying Kelly\u2019s \u201cactions were brazen, manipulative, controlling and coercive. He has shown no remorse or respect for the law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPut simply, [Kelly\u2019s] crimes were calculated, methodical, and part [of] a long-standing pattern of using his platform as a larger-than-life musical persona and his deep network to gain access to teenagers, many of whom were particularly vulnerable, and then to exploit them for his personal gain and sexual gratification,\u201d the filing continued.<\/p>\n<p>Kelly famously married singer Aaliyah when she was just 15 years old, coercing her to lie and say she was 18 at the time.
