But Hostin worried that a first step was not enough \u2014 and that progress would stall out before anything else got done.<\/p>\n<p>WATCH:<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;If you truly are pro-life, you cannot be pro-life and also be pro-death penalty and be pro-guns. There\u2019s just no way that that is consistent,&#8221; Sunny Hostin complains. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/hJz03sHRcx\">pic.twitter.com\/hJz03sHRcx<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Virginia Kruta (@VAKruta) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/VAKruta\/status\/1542225134504873984?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 29, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Co-host <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/co-host-sara-haines-lectures-public-on-whoopi-prioritizing-punitive-measures-instead-of-teaching-moment-is-misguided\/\">Sara Haines<\/a> called the legislation \u2014 which has been <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/gun-rights-groups-explain-the-problems-with-gun-control-bill-that-14-gop-senators-caved-on\/\">panned<\/a> by a number of Republicans in Congress and by the National Rifle Association (NRA) \u2014 an important \u201cfirst step,\u201d prompting Hostin to cut in.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt shows you move the ball 20 yards, and then you move it 20 yards. You just keep moving it. This was a huge first step,\u201d Haines said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hate to be the curmudgeon on the panel \u2026\u201d Hostin began.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo you really?\u201d co-host Whoopi Goldberg asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLook. I just, you know, I don\u2019t think that we\u2019re going to see much more movement on this, especially with the way the Supreme Court is going, right?\u201d Hostin continued. \u201cBecause now you have Clarence Thomas writing an opinion that says, you know, you can have your guns anywhere. You can have them not only in your home. You can have them outside, and I think we\u2019re seeing such hypocrisy quite frankly from not only the Supreme Court, of course, but from Republicans because if you truly are pro-life, you cannot be pro-life and also be pro-death penalty and be pro-guns. There\u2019s just no way that that is consistent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you think about the Republican Party, I mean, 80% of Republicans believe that the death penalty is appropriate, morally justified, when it comes to someone convicted of murder, and we know so many people are wrongfully convicted of murder,\u201d Hostin concluded, adding, \u201cAnd then you have the Republican Party also being pro-gun rights.\u00a0Pro-guns.
