Pramila Jayapal, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-resolution\/1209\/text\">HR 1209 proposes<\/a> \u201camending the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to prohibit discrimination on the basis of sex, including gender identity and sex characteristics in public accommodations and federally funded programs and activities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Trans Bill of Rights also proposes amending federal education laws to ensure that students can participate on sports teams \u201cthat best align with their gender identity\u201d and use \u201cschool facilities that best align with their gender identity\u201d \u2014 meaning that biological males could use women\u2019s restrooms and play on women\u2019s sports teams.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs we witness Republicans and an extremist Supreme Court attack and roll back the fundamental rights of trans people across our country, and as state legislatures across the country target our trans community with hateful, bigoted, and transphobic attacks, we are standing up and saying enough is enough,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/jayapal.house.gov\/2022\/06\/28\/jayapal-cicilline-newman-takano-torres-lead-members-in-introducing-the-trans-bill-of-rights\/\">said<\/a>\u00a0Jayapal, the chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and co-chair of the Transgender Equality Task Force.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur Trans Bill of Rights says clearly to the trans community across the country that we see you and we will stand with you to ensure you are protected and given the dignity and respect that every person should have,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Yesterday, on the 53rd Anniversary of <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Stonewall?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Stonewall<\/a>, I was proud to join <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepJayapal?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@RepJayapal<\/a> as a cosponsor of The Trans Bill of Rights, which says clearly to the trans community that we see you and we will stand with you and that <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/TransLivesMatter?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#TransLivesMatter<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Learn More: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/lwA1O3hRtE\">https:\/\/t.co\/lwA1O3hRtE<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/JUdWB2SXp9\">pic.twitter.com\/JUdWB2SXp9<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Rep. David Cicilline of Rhode Island, Marie Newman of Illinois, Mark Takano of California, and Ritchie Torres of New York joined Jayapal in introducing the Trans Bill of Rights.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s official: the Democratic Party has gone completely insane,\u201d American Principles Project President Terry Schilling said in a statement. \u201cHow else does one explain their doubling down on this radical transgender agenda, on the same day a wide-ranging poll is released showing its deep unpopularity with voters? Wade<\/em>, which Democrats <a href=\"https:\/\/jayapal.house.gov\/2022\/06\/28\/jayapal-cicilline-newman-takano-torres-lead-members-in-introducing-the-trans-bill-of-rights\/\">described<\/a> as a move that stripped \u201cmany of their constitutional right to choose,\u201d warning that the \u201cCourt seems poised and willing to take on other hard-earned constitutional rights.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At least 18 states <a href=\"https:\/\/americanprinciplesproject.org\/legislation\/louisiana-becomes-18th-state-protect-girls-sports\/\">have passed legislation<\/a> that bans biological males from women\u2019s sports. Many other states have passed legislation banning transgender surgeries for minors or biological males from women\u2019s restrooms \u2014 in a statement accompanying the \u201cTrans Bill of Rights,\u201d Takano claimed GOP lawmakers introduced over 300 \u201canti-LGBTQ bills.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Schilling <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/dc-md-va\/2022\/06\/13\/washington-post-umd-poll-most-americans-oppose-transgender-athletes-female-sports\/\">pointed to polling<\/a> showing that most Americans don\u2019t want biological males in women\u2019s sports.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf course, it shouldn\u2019t require a poll to tell us the obvious,\u201d he said. \u201cAmericans strongly object to putting men in women\u2019s sports. They don\u2019t want their daughters being forced to share bathrooms and locker rooms with boys.
