The information <a href=\"https:\/\/thereload.com\/new-california-ag-website-leaks-massive-trove-of-gun-owner-private-information\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">included<\/a> the full name, birthday, race, and address of every permit holder in the state, as well as the date permits were issued, according to the <em>Reload<\/em>. Though gun-rights advocates <a href=\"https:\/\/thereload.com\/new-california-bill-would-allow-the-release-of-gun-owners-personal-information\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">warned<\/a> that a state record of permit holders would <a href=\"https:\/\/crpa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/AB-173-CRPA-Veto-Letter-September-2021-1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">violate the privacy<\/a> of gun owners, Gov. Gavin Newsom (D.) signed a bill\u2014which Democrats passed along party lines\u2014authorizing the database in September.<\/p>\n<p>California has some of the strictest gun laws in the country and is currently facing a crime wave. The governor and his Democratic colleagues ignored <a href=\"https:\/\/crpa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/AB-173-CRPA-Veto-Letter-September-2021-1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a prediction<\/a> from the California Rifle and Pistol Association that the now-leaked database does little to curb violent crime. The database had been intended for state-run university research. The leak carries further significance after the Supreme Court\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/06\/23\/us\/supreme-court-ny-open-carry-gun-law.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">move<\/a> to expand concealed-carry rights, since gun owners&#8217; privacy can no longer be guaranteed in the Golden State.<\/p>\n<p>The information on the dashboard was available for download before the California Justice Department took it down on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement given to the <em>Reload<\/em>, California Rifle and Pistol Association president Chuck Michel <a href=\"https:\/\/thereload.com\/new-california-ag-website-leaks-massive-trove-of-gun-owner-private-information\/\">said<\/a> his group &#8220;is working with several legislators and sheriffs to determine the extent of the damage caused by DOJ\u2019s doxing of law abiding gun owners. Litigation is likely.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Authorities <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fresnosheriff.org\/report-a-crime-online.html?fbclid=IwAR1Xn3FUpMYvuakyi3lFvxaNxmUA-2EqDRV2tCE2MmbNdMLUxlNcT7Xxo98\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recommend<\/a> that citizens who believe their information may have been accessed by bad actors should file a police report.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As part of a Democrat-led effort to &#8220;better understand the role and potential dangers of firearms,&#8221; California inadvertently leaked private information about every concealed-carry permit holder in the state.
