Somebody will sell out and go to it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Then, he bailed on the Professional Golfers\u2019 Association (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/pga\">PGA<\/a>) and joined it.<\/p>\n<p>Koepka on Tuesday summed up his flip-flop in two words: \u201cOpinions change.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel very comfortable with the decision I made. I\u2019m happy, and did what\u2019s best for me,\u201d Koepka said, <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/politics-sports-portland-jamal-khashoggi-golf-738ec5ff95756774f6a4700df8ec0637\">reported<\/a> The Associated Press (AP).<\/p>\n<p>But another former world No. 1, Rory McIlroy, said this month that Koepka and others were being duplicitous \u201cto say one thing and then do another thing,\u201d per The AP.<\/p>\n<p>Koepka dismissed that, too.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLook, he\u2019s entitled to his opinion. He can think whatever he wants,\u201d Koepka said. \u201cHe\u2019s going to do what\u2019s best for him and his family, I\u2019m going to do what\u2019s best for me and my family. Can\u2019t hate on anybody for that, and like I said, opinions change, man.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While Koepka is just 32 years old, the PGA tour can be grueling; many top golfers play 25 weeks or more each year, walking 72 holes over four days, often in extreme heat. Koepka cited a knee injury that has slowed him down, but he also said he wants to spend more time with his family \u2014 which he can do because the LIV Series runs just eight weeks.<\/p>\n<p>The new tour is <a href=\"https:\/\/bleacherreport.com\/articles\/10029953-saudi-backed-liv-golf-invitational-to-offer-255m-in-purse-money-over-8-2022-events\">backed<\/a> by hundreds of millions of dollars from Saudi Arabia, one of the worst human rights offenders in the world. But other huge names in golf have joined, including Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, and Bryson DeChambeau.<\/p>\n<p>The PGA is not happy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have followed the Tournament Regulations from start to finish in responding to those players who have decided to turn their backs on the PGA TOUR by willfully violating a regulation,\u201d the PGA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportingnews.com\/us\/golf\/news\/pga-tour-suspensions-liv-golf-tour-phil-mickelson-dustin-johnson\/ruzs2pdfsani9c3uymfunscf\">said<\/a> in a statement this month, according to Sporting News. \u201cThe players are being notified that they are suspended or otherwise no longer eligible to participate in PGA Tour tournament play, including the Presidents Cup. This also applies to all tours sanctioned by the PGA Tour: the Korn Ferry Tour, PGA tour Champions, PGA Tour Canada and PGA Tour Latinoamerica.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs you know, players listed below did not receive the necessary conflicting event and media rights releases \u2014 or did not apply for releases at all \u2014 and their participation in the Saudi Golf League\/LIV Golf event is in violation of our Tournament Regulations,\u201d the U.S. tour added.<\/p>\n<p><em>Joseph Curl has covered politics for 35 years, including 12 years as White House correspondent for a national newspaper.
