The films <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20190707025757\/https:\/www.boxofficemojo.com\/franchises\/chart\/?id=darkknighttrilogy.htm\">amassed<\/a> roughly $2.5 billion at the box office worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>Asked about a potential return to the role, Bale told <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/christian-bale-batman-return-christopher-nolan-condition-response\/\">Screen Rant<\/a>, \u201cNo one\u2019s ever mentioned it to me. No one\u2019s brought it up. \u2026 Occasionally people say to me, \u2018Oh, I hear you were approached and offered all this.\u2019 And I\u2019m like, \u2018That\u2019s news to me. No one\u2019s ever said that.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had a pact with Chris Nolan,\u201d Bale continued. \u201cWe said, \u2018Hey, look. Let\u2019s make three films, if we\u2019re lucky enough to get to do that. And then let\u2019s walk away. Let\u2019s not linger too long.\u2019 In my mind, it would be something if Chris Nolan ever said to himself, \u2018You know what, I\u2019ve got another story to tell.\u2019 And if he wished to tell that story with me, I\u2019d be in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bale is set to star as Gorr the God Butcher in \u201cThor: Love and Thunder,\u201d which follows \u201cThor: Ragnarok.\u201d Nolan is directing \u201cOppenheimer,\u201d about J. Robert Oppenheimer and in the development of the atomic bomb, starring Cillian Murphy and set to premiere in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>In 2003, prior to the release of Nolan\u2019s first Batman film, he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.superherohype.com\/features\/83215-official-christian-bale-is-batman\">said<\/a> of Bale, \u201cWhat I see in Christian is the ultimate embodiment of Bruce Wayne. He has exactly the balance of darkness and light that we were looking for.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jeff Robinov, then president of production for Warner Bros.
