Sean Casten (D-Ill.) in the general election in the fall to represent the state\u2019s 6th Congressional District.<\/p>\n<p>Illinois\u2019 6th district is a Democratic-leaning House seat that is considered winnable by Republicans in a midterm year when the president\u2019s party typically loses ground. Nationwide, Republicans need to flip a net of five House seats to gain the majority.<\/p>\n<p>The district, which covers some of the most conservative Chicago suburbs, had the state\u2019s only primary fight between two Democratic incumbents, Casten and first-term Rep. Marie Newman (D-Ill.)<\/p>\n<p>The new map drawn by the state legislature last year redistricted Newman out of her old district, prompting her to seek reelection in Casten\u2019s district instead.<\/p>\n<p>Among the two, Casten positioned himself as more moderate than Newman. For example, on health care, Newman supports a single-payer, universal health care system while Casten favors keeping the private sector.<\/p>\n<p>Casten has\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fec.gov\/data\/candidates\/house\/?election_year=2022&#038;election_full=True&#038;state=IL&#038;district=06&#038;is_active_candidate=true\">raised $3.2 million<\/a>, almost twice that of Newman, according to campaign finance data published by Federal Election Commission (FEC.)<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile\u00a0Keith Pekau ousted fellow\u00a0suburban mayor Gary Grasso in the Republican primary. Each touted successful governing records, respectively, on pandemic handling and crime control.<\/p>\n<p>On issues, Grasso is more towards the center than Pekau. For example, Grasso is open to discussions on gun control measures, while Pekau thinks the focus should be on criminals, not guns.<\/p>\n<p>Grasso has raised $621,217, including a $250,000 loan from himself, while Pekau has collected $374,601, according to FEC.<\/p>\n<p>Other Republican candidates included engineer and lawyer Scott Kaspar, small business owner Rob Cruz, and energy consultant Niki Conforti.<\/p>\n<p>   <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/author-cara-ding\"><\/a> <\/p>\n<p>Follow<\/p>\n<p>Cara is a Chicago-based Epoch Times reporter.
