Greg Abbott said that the Biden administration\u2019s illegal immigration policies are to blame, in part, after dozens of people were found dead inside a truck near San Antonio.<\/p>\n<p>Hours after the bodies were found inside the back of an 18-wheeler truck on Monday, the Republican governor issued a Twitter post, saying, \u201cThese deaths are on [President Joe] Biden.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are a result of his deadly open border policies,\u201d Abbott <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GregAbbott_TX\/status\/1541596214705135617\">wrote<\/a> on the social media platform. \u201cThey show the deadly consequences of his refusal to enforce the law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Monday evening, local officials said that 46 people were found dead inside the tractor-trailer. On Tuesday, that number rose to 48 as two people died at a nearby hospital, a\u00a0spokesperson with Baptist Health System <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/news\/local\/2022\/06\/27\/heavy-police-presence-surrounding-18-wheeler-on-southwest-side\/\">confirmed<\/a> to KSAT-TV.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s tragic,\u201d San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg told the station. \u201cWe hope that those responsible for putting these people through such inhumane conditions are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The illegal immigrants most likely died due to heat stroke or heat exhaustion as they were trapped inside a tractor-trailer in 100-degree F weather,\u00a0San Antonio Fire\u00a0Chief Charles Hood told KSAT. Officials said the victims were mostly teens and young adults, and it\u2019s not clear if any children were being transported illegally across the border.<\/p>\n<p>In 2021, more than 2 million illegal aliens were stopped as they attempted to enter the United States along the southern border, according to data provided by the\u00a0U.S. Customs and Border Protection earlier this year. In October 2021, the agency said that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/national\/border-arrests-record-levels-2021\/2021\/10\/19\/289dce64-3115-11ec-a880-a9d8c009a0b1_story.html\">border arrests rose<\/a> to an all-time high for the 2021 fiscal year.<\/p>\n<p> Open Borders <\/p>\n<p>Republicans have often said that the spike in illegal border crossings is because of the Biden administration\u2019s failure to enforce federal immigration laws and its systematic rolling back of key Trump-era border<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Texas Gov.
