Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) claimed without evidence on Sunday that some U.S. Supreme Court justices who voted to overturn Roe v. Wade \u201clied\u201d under oath during their confirmation hearings, which she said is \u201can impeachable offense.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ocasio-Cortez made the remarks during an interview on NBC News\u2019 \u201cMeet the Press\u201d with host Chuck Todd, who brought up how Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) said that the justices had testified \u201cunder oath.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey lied,\u201d Ocasio-Cortez claimed. \u201cIf we allow Supreme Court nominees to lie under, under oath and secure lifetime appointments to the highest court of the land and then issue, issue without basis \u2014 if you read these opinions \u2014 issue without basis, rulings that deeply undermine the human and civil rights of the majority of Americans, we must see that through. There must be consequences for such a deeply destabilizing action and a hostile takeover of our democratic institutions. To allow that to stand is to allow it to happen. And what makes it particularly dangerous is that it sends a blaring signal to all future nominees that they can now lie to duly elected members of the United States Senate in order to secure Supreme Court confirmations and seats on the Supreme Court. Jackson\u00a0Women\u2019s Health Organization<\/em> on Friday which followed the early May leak of a draft opinion indicating which way the justices would rule, The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/united-states-supreme-court-overturns-roe-v-wade-leaves-abortion-restrictions-to-states\">reported<\/a>. That leak prompted protests across the nation, particularly in Washington, D.C., as well as dozens of attacks and vandalism of pro-life organizations, centers, and churches.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Samuel Alito wrote that\u00a0<em>Roe<\/em>\u00a0and a subsequent case,\u00a0<em>Planned Parenthood v. Casey<\/em>, which upheld\u00a0<em>Roe<\/em>, both must be overturned, and the right to allow, deny, or restrict the right to an abortion must reside with states.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Roe<\/em>\u00a0was egregiously wrong from the start. Its reasoning was exceptionally weak, and the decision has had damaging consequences. And far from bringing about a national settlement of the abortion issue,\u00a0<em>Roe<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Casey<\/em>\u00a0have enflamed debate and deepened division,\u201d Alito wrote in his majority opinion, which was strikingly similar to the earlier leaked draft. \u201cIt is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people\u2019s elected representatives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Mary Margaret Olohan contributed to this report.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rep.
