His situation first became public last week when he\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/sciencetech\/twitter\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">tweeted<\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0about it under a pseudonym.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201c\u2018Oh God, what have I done?\u2019\u201d Herron recalls thinking as the fog of anesthesia cleared.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Ritchie Herron \u2066(<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TullipR?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@TullipR<\/a>\u2069) deserves our support. But he said the procedure, which he calls \u201c\u2018the biggest mistake of my life,\u2019\u201d has left him infertile, incontinent, and in constant agony.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Herron said his ordeal with the NHS began a decade ago when he sought professional help for depression, which he attributes to being gay and living in the closet. He had recently learned about gender dysphoria in an internet chatroom, where others convinced him he was transgender.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">He said he was referred to a psychologist and then to the Northern Region Gender Dysphoria Service, run by the NHS. In 2014, a clinic diagnosed him as \u201ctranssexual\u201d after just two 30-minute appointments. A psychiatrist recommended medication to block testosterone production in preparation for a gender change.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Herron said a relative who accompanied him to the clinic tried to warn staffers that he was on anti-depressants and had mental problems, but the system kept pushing him along. He changed his name to \u201cAbby\u201d and began identifying as a woman while taking hormone treatments.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">On May 23, 2018, he completed the sex-change procedure with operations to remove his penis and testicles and construct an artificial vagina.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201c\u2018I didn\u2019t even see the surgeon,\u2019\u201d he said. \u201c\u2018I was very much in the mindset of \u2018I\u2019m here now, there\u2019s no stopping it even if I wanted to.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/subscribe-today-two\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">CLICK HERE TO SEE THE DAILY WIRE\u2019S BOMBSHELL DOCUMENTARY, \u201cWHAT IS A WOMAN?\u201d<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne &#038; Wear NHS Foundation Trust, which Herron says he is suing, denied that patients are sped through the irreversible process without proper counseling.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201c\u2018Care plans are collaborative and tailored to each patient\u2019s needs and goals, and treatment decisions are made following a thorough assessment in line with national recommendations,\u2019\u201d the agency told the\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-10953157\/Man-suing-NHS-trans-surgery-regrets-bravely-waived-anonymity-share-ordeal.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Mail<\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The radical ideology is coming under increased scrutiny as more people like Herron come forward.
