The money was reportedly handed over in secret meetings at Prince Charles\u2019 official London residence, Clarence House.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cEveryone felt very uncomfortable about the situation,\u201d a former adviser to Prince Charles told the newspaper. \u201cThe only thing we could do was to count the money and make a mutual record of what we\u2019d done. His great uncle founded the nation in 1971, and his cousin is the current emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Al Thani is a billionaire and owns 3% of Deutsche Bank.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">A Clarence House official insisted that the donations were correctly reported, and there was no allegation the payments were illegal.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cCharitable donations received from Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim were passed immediately to one of the prince\u2019s charities who carried out the appropriate governance and have assured us that all the correct processes were followed,\u201d the prince\u2019s office said in a statement on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">But the report is likely to renew criticism of the prince selling access. Last year, his longtime aide Michael Fawcett was fired from a separate charity, the Prince\u2019s Foundation, amid allegations he used his influence to get a visa and royal honors for a Saudi billionaire.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Mahfouz Marei Mubarak bin Mahfouz allegedly paid tens of thousands of dollars for the honorary title of \u201cCommander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire,\u201d according to\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/article\/prince-charles-aides-fixed-cbe-for-saudi-tycoon-who-gave-1-5m-0b5cb7qf2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The Sunday Times<\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.
