The bill was pushed through both the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/23\/senate-passes-bipartisan-gun-control-legislation\/\">Senate<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/24\/bipartisan-safer-communities-act-house-gun-control-bill-joe-biden-sign\/\">House<\/a> with bipartisan support and is viewed as the most significant federal gun control legislation passed in decades. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/22\/senate-advances-debate-gun-control-legislation\/\">(RELATED:\u00a0Senate Votes To Begin Debate On Bipartisan Gun Control Legislation Shortly After Releasing Its Contents)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was there 30 years ago, the last time this nation passed meaningful gun safety laws,\u201d Biden said at the White House on Saturday morning. \u201cAnd I\u2019m here today for the most significant law to be passed since then, the last 30 years. I would like to thank the leaders and members of the House and Senate for working together to get this done. I especially want to thank the families [of the victims].\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey lost their child, their husband, their wife,\u201d Biden added. \u201cNothing is going to fill that void in their hearts. But they led the way, so other families will not have to experience the pain and trauma that they had to live through.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>WATCH:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Although Biden noted that the \u201cbill doesn\u2019t do everything\u201d he called for, the president highlighted that \u201cit does include\u201d some of the actions he\u2019s been pushing for. The \u201cBipartisan Safer Communities Act\u201d has funding for crisis intervention programs, and this funding can be used for things like \u201cred flag\u201d programs and mental health courts.<\/p>\n<p>The bill also addresses \u201cthe boyfriend loophole,\u201d which had allowed for someone convicted of a domestic violence crime to own a gun if they didn\u2019t live with their victim, weren\u2019t married to their victim or didn\u2019t have children with their victim, CNN <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/06\/25\/politics\/biden-signs-gun-bill\/index.html\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cBipartisan Safer Communities Act\u201d essentially changes the definition of what dating is \u2013 now, according to the bill, it is defined as \u201ca relationship between individuals who have or have recently had a continuing serious relationship of a romantic or intimate nature,\u201d NPR <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2022\/06\/23\/1106967037\/boyfriend-loophole-senate-bipartisan-gun-safety-bill-domestic-abuse\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The bill Biden touted on Saturday doesn\u2019t go as far as banning particular kinds of guns or implementing a federal universal background check system. Still, it also has provisions that expand background checks if an individual is between 18-21 years old and provides additional school safety funding, according to NPR.
