Wade<\/a> in a speech to the nation on Friday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday, the Supreme Court of the United States expressly took away a constitutional right from the American people that it had already recognized,\u201d Biden said, per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/live-updates\/biden-roe-v-wade-supreme-court-decision-dobbs\/\">CBS News<\/a>. \u201cThey didn\u2019t limit it. They simply took away\u2026 this is not over.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 1973 opinion \u2014 which claimed that abortion is protected under the Fourteenth Amendment of the Constitution \u2014 was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/united-states-supreme-court-overturns-roe-v-wade-leaves-abortion-restrictions-to-states\">overturned<\/a> through the court\u2019s ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women\u2019s Health Organization. An unknown individual <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/breaking-supreme-court-strikes-down-roe-v-wade-decision-in-draft-of-majority-opinion-report-says\">leaked<\/a> Justice Samuel Alito\u2019s draft opinion in early May.<\/p>\n<p>Biden pinned the overturn of Roe on his predecessor, former President Donald Trump, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/god-made-the-decision-trump-weights-in-on-supreme-court-abortion-ruling\">reacted positively<\/a> to the news earlier on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was three justices named by one president, Donald Trump, who were the core of today\u2019s decision to upend the scales of justice and eliminate a fundamental right for women in this country,\u201d Biden argued. \u201cMake no mistake \u2014 this decision is a culmination of a deliberate effort over decades to upset the balance of our law. It\u2019s a realization of an extreme ideology and a tragic error by the Supreme Court, in my view.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden called Roe the \u201claw of the land\u201d and said that abortion is \u201con the ballot\u201d in November. Yet Congress has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/senate-rejects-democrats-attempt-to-gut-state-pro-life-laws\">failed to pass<\/a> the Women\u2019s Health Protection Act \u2014 a bill that claims to codify Roe \u2014 on multiple occasions due to moderates\u2019 opposition in the Senate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe right to privacy, liberty, equality \u2014 they\u2019re all on the ballot,\u201d Biden said. \u201cUntil then, I will do all in my power to protect a woman\u2019s right in states where they will face the consequences of today\u2019s decision.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden noted that many states would \u201ctry to ban or severely restrict access\u201d to abortifacient medication. Indeed, Louisiana recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/louisiana-governor-signs-bill-outlawing-the-mailing-of-abortion-pills\">passed a bill<\/a> applying fines and prison time for individuals who mail abortion pills. \u201cToday I\u2019m directing the Department of Health and Human Services to take steps to ensure these critical medications are available to the fullest extent possible,\u201d Biden said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy administration will remain vigilant as the implications of this decision play out,\u201d the commander-in-chief continued. \u201cI\u2019ve warned about how this decision risks the broader right to privacy for everyone. That\u2019s because Roe recognized the fundamental right to privacy that has served as the basis for so many more rights that \u2014 we\u2019ve come to take for granted that are engrained in the fabric of this country \u2014 the right to make the best decisions for your health, the right to use birth control, the right to privacy of a couple in their bedroom, for God\u2019s sake, the right to marry the person you love.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/breaking-democrats-explode-after-supreme-court-makes-it-harder-to-kill-unborn-babies\">Democrats likewise condemned<\/a> the Supreme Court\u2019s decision.<\/p>\n<p>House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said during a press conference that there was \u201cno point in saying \u2018good morning,\u2019 because it certainly is not one.\u201d Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) said that overturning <em>Roe<\/em> would deny women \u201cthe right to control their own bodies,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenSanders\/status\/1540365248158384139?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1540365248158384139%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&#038;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.washingtonexaminer.com%2Fnews%2Fhouse%2Ffilibuster-expand-supreme-court-dobbs-ruling-aoc-sanders\">calling<\/a> it \u201can outrage and in defiance of what the American people want.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/watch-aoc-chants-into-the-streets-after-roe-ruling-ignores-chance-to-condemn-pro-abortion-violence\">led<\/a> pro-abortion protesters chanting that the Supreme Court is \u201cillegitimate,\u201d applauding and smiling as she called for Americans to get \u201cinto the streets.\u201d She told CNN that the Supreme Court \u201cchose to endanger the lives of all women and all birthing people in this country\u201d and opted to \u201cstrip rights from men too.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Joe Biden reacted to the Supreme Court overturning Roe v.
