Glenn Youngkin, a Republican, pledged to use the state\u2019s power to protect Supreme Court justices from rioters who may threaten them at their homes in the wake of a major abortion ruling.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am in regular contact with the Supreme Court Justices and my administration is in coordination with our mayors, and local and state police to ensure we are ready to take appropriate action if need be. Virginia will not stand for lawlessness or violence,\u201d Youngkin said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovernorVA\/status\/1540382198678831107\/photo\/1\">statement<\/a> shortly after the release of the court decision <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/united-states-supreme-court-overturns-roe-v-wade-leaves-abortion-restrictions-to-states\">overturning <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s ruling is a landmark decision for our country. While I understand that people across the nation have strong beliefs about this ruling, Virginians must always respect the rule of law and I appeal to their civility on this historic day. Our administration is committed to protecting individuals\u2019 constitutional rights and ensuring Virginians are safe,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Multiple justices live in the Northern Virginia suburbs, and far-left protesters have targeted them \u2014 with one group even <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RuthSentUs\/status\/1534530178298150913\">advertising<\/a> when and where Justice Amy Coney Barrett attends church and putting signs up where her daughter goes to school.<\/p>\n<p>Posters around D.C. have, for the last week, encouraged people to riot when the Supreme Court issued its decision, while others called for a \u201cnight of rage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/law.lis.virginia.gov\/vacode\/title18.2\/chapter9\/section18.2-419\/\">Code of Virginia<\/a> prohibits \u201cpicketing before or about the residence or dwelling place of any individual \u2026 in a manner which disrupts or threatens to disrupt any individual\u2019s right to tranquility in his home,\u201d though others have questioned such laws on constitutional grounds.<\/p>\n<p>But far-left politicos from Fairfax County rejected Youngkin\u2019s entreaties that local police \u201cestablish an expanded security perimeter\u201d and limit \u201cunauthorized vehicle and pedestrian access\u201d around the residences of Justices Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas, and Amy Coney Barrett, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ffxnow.com\/2022\/05\/12\/fairfax-county-board-chair-rejects-youngkins-advice-for-supreme-court-justice-protests\/\">Fairfax Now<\/a> reported May 12.<\/p>\n<p>After an armed man traveled to the home of Justice Brett Kavanaugh in Maryland and was indicted for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/alleged-would-be-kavanaugh-assassin-indicted-for-attempted-murder-of-a-justice\">attempted murder<\/a> of a justice, Youngkin introduced an amendment to the state\u2019s budget that would make it a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/proposed-youngkin-amendment-would-make-it-a-felony-to-protest-outside-a-justices-home\">felony<\/a> to try to influence or intimidate a judge with protests. Lawmakers blocked the amendment.<\/p>\n<p>Youngkin, a Republican who last year won election in a generally blue-leaning state, signaled Friday that he will pursue a 15-week abortion ban. \u201cWe can build a bipartisan consensus on protecting the life of unborn children, especially when they begin to feel pain in the womb and importantly supporting mothers and families who choose life,\u201d he said in a statement.
