Wade<\/em> decision on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), whose staunch insistence on waiting for the 2020 election to be concluded before filling the seat vacated by the late Antonin Scalia helped pave the way for the conservative majority on the Supreme Court, issued a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.republicanleader.senate.gov\/newsroom\/press-releases\/the-supreme-courts-landmark-ruling-is-courageous-and-correct?peek=Ch%2BU27jO55biJBjCsRfbGO0cxjVqd8RXzJHMdjz\/XJrD3ry5\">lengthy statement<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><em>The Supreme Court\u2019s landmark ruling in Dobbs is courageous and correct. This is an historic victory for the Constitution and for the most vulnerable in our society.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>For 50 years, states have been unable to enact even modest protections for unborn children. More than 90% of Europe restricts abortion on demand after 15 weeks, but every state in America has been forced to allow it more than a month past that, after a baby can feel pain, yawn, stretch, and suck his or her thumb. Judicial activists declared that every state had to handle abortion like China and North Korea and no state could handle it like France or Germany.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Not anymore. Now the American people get their voice back.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The Court has corrected a terrible legal and moral error, like when Brown v. Board overruled Plessy v. Ferguson. The Justices applied the Constitution. They carefully weighed the complex factors regarding precedent. The Court overturned mistaken rulings that even liberals have long admitted were incoherent, restoring the separation of powers. I commend the Court for its impartiality in the face of attempted intimidation.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Democrats\u2019 disgraceful attacks on the Court have echoed\u00a0Democrats\u2019 outrage at Brown v. Board in 1954. Today\u2019s Democrats are jaw-droppingly extreme on abortion. 97% of Washington Democrats support legislation that would effectively require nine months of abortion on demand until the moment of birth. Only 19% of Americans share this radical view but 97% of Democrats in Congress embrace it. They would rather attack our institutions than let the American people enact the reasonable protections they want.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Millions of Americans have spent half a century praying, marching, and working toward today\u2019s historic victories for the rule of law and for innocent life. I have been proud to stand with them throughout our long journey and I share their joy today.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Senator Mike Lee (R-UT), who once clerked for Justice Samuel Alito, who wrote the decision, added:<\/p>\n<p><em>The national nightmare of Roe has ended. The Supreme Court of the United\u00a0States has overturned the wrongly decided Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood Casey. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>While the 63 million lives lost to abortion since Roe can never be\u00a0reclaimed, we can take heart that the Supreme Court has recognized that Roe v.\u00a0Wade and its progeny belong next to Plessy v. Ferguson and Dred Scott v.\u00a0Sandford in the anticanon of Supreme Court history. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I have never been prouder to\u00a0have clerked for Justice Alito or the Supreme Court of the United States. I pray for\u00a0national unity and for the safety of justices of the Supreme Court who, in regard\u00a0to this case, have face unprecedented attacks.
