Kathy Hochul said Friday morning law abiding gun owners make people feel \u201cunsafe\u201d just one day after the Supreme Court overturned a more than century old gun law.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on CBS This Morning, Hochul said the right to carry outside the home makes individuals feel \u201cunsafe\u201d and seemed to insinuate it should not be allowed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverybody in America recognizes that there is a problem with gun violence and the people who cheer this, what they say, what they see is, \u2018Look there is a problem with gun violence and I, as a law-abiding citizen, want to be able to hold a gun on my person so that I feel safer.\u2019 What do you say to that individual?\u201d the host asked Hochul.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI say that makes everyone else feel very unsafe. We don\u2019t know if you\u2019re provoked, you know, you\u2019re in a bar and someone looks at your girlfriend or your boyfriend the wrong way. There are so many triggers. If someone wants to have a legal gun, licensed protection in their home, that is their domain, they can do that, we\u2019ve always allowed that, or for hunting and other purposes,\u201d Hochul said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut to think someone would be able to do this on a subway, in a crowded, tense situation during rush hour? No, we have a right to protect our citizens, not take away your right to own, that\u2019s fine, but where you take it and the ability to conceal it, that\u2019s just going to make things so much more complicated for law enforcement and others.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The high Court struck down a New York State gun law Thursday that required individuals to show \u201cproper cause\u201d in order to obtain a concealed carry permit.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/search.aspx?filename=\/docket\/docketfiles\/html\/public\/20-843.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">case<\/a> centered on two <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/09\/hoober-the-scotus-case-weve-been-waiting-for\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">individuals<\/a> from Rensselaer County who applied for their concealed carry permits but were denied for <a href=\"http:\/\/ypdcrime.com\/penal.law\/article400.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">having<\/a> \u201cfailed to show \u2018proper cause\u2019 to carry a firearm in public for the purpose of self-defense, because [they] did not demonstrate a special need for self-defense that distinguished [them] from the general public.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/23\/supreme-court-second-amendment-concealed-carry-new-york\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">court ruled 6-3<\/a> that the \u201cproper-cause requirement violates the Fourteenth Amendment by preventing law-abiding citizens with ordinary self-defense needs from exercising their Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms in public for self-defense.\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/23\/muskets-new-york-gov-hochul-scotus-overturning-concealed-carry-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: \u2018I\u2019m Prepared To Go Back To Muskets\u2019: New York Gov. Hochul Rages Over SCOTUS Overturning Concealed Carry Law)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe constitutional right to bear arms in public for self-defense is not \u2018a second-class right, subject to an entirely different body of rules than the other Bill of Rights guarantees,\u2019\u201d the court ruled. \u201cThe exercise of other constitutional rights does not require individuals to demonstrate to government officers some special need.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hochul lamented the ruling Thursday, saying it was \u201coutrageous that at a moment of national reckoning on gun violence, the Supreme Court has recklessly struck down a New York law that limits those who can carry concealed weapons.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Democratic New York Gov.
