I was in Buffalo [New York], I attended one of the funerals. We have seen the massacre of 19 babies and their teachers in Uvalde [Texas]. We can go on down the list about why, yet again, is on the front pages so to speak of the concern of the American people about what we can and what we have a responsibility to do in terms of reasonable gun safety laws.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>WATCH:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd it is for that reason that I believe that the Supreme Court\u2019s decision today defies logic in terms of what we know we are capable of doing with reasonable gun safety laws to secure the safety and the wellbeing\u00a0 the people of our nation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Justice Clarence Thomas wrote the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/opinions\/21pdf\/20-843_7j80.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">majority opinion<\/a> ruling in the case. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/23\/middle-finger-new-york-the-view-laments-scotus-decision-concealed-carry-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: \u2018Middle Finger To New York\u2019: \u2018The View\u2019 Laments SCOTUS Decision On NY Concealed Carry Law)\u00a0<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe constitutional right to bear arms in public for self-defense is not \u2018a second-class right, subject to an entirely different body of rules than the other Bill of Rights guarantees,&#8217;\u201d the court ruled. \u201cThe exercise of other constitutional rights does not require individuals to demonstrate to government officers some special need.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Second Amendment right to carry arms in public for self-defense is no different. New York\u2019s proper-cause requirement violates the Fourteenth Amendment by preventing law-abiding citizens with ordinary self-defense needs from exercising their right to keep and bear arms in public.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In his dissenting opinion, Justice Stephen Breyer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law360.com\/personal-injury-medical-malpractice\/articles\/1488257\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">wrote<\/a> \u201conly by ignoring an abundance of historical evidence supporting regulations restricting the public carriage of firearms can the Court conclude that New York\u2019s law is not \u2018consistent with the Nation\u2019s historical tradition of firearm regulation.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Democratic New York Gov.
