Kathy Hochul angrily responded to the Supreme Court ruling overturning her state\u2019s gun law that required individuals to show \u201cproper cause\u201d to obtain a concealed carry permit in a Thursday address.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/23\/supreme-court-second-amendment-concealed-carry-new-york\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">case<\/a>, New York State Rifle &#038; Pistol Association v. Keith M. Corlett, challenged the state regulation requiring \u201cproper cause\u201d to obtain a license to carry handguns in public. The Court struck down the law Thursday, ruling that proper cause \u201cviolates the Fourteenth Amendment\u201d by preventing law-abiding citizens from keeping and bearing arms for self-defense purposes.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/28\/no-friend-to-gun-owners-gov-kathy-hochul-renews-gun-control-that-didnt-work\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hochul<\/a> blasted the decision of the \u201cpoliticized Supreme Court\u201d that New York \u201cmust demonstrate that the regulation is consistent with this nation\u2019s history and tradition of firearm regulation.\u201d She claimed the Court has \u201ctaken away\u201d the state\u2019s right to implement \u201creasonable restrictions\u201d on gun ownership.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re not powerless in this situation. We\u2019re not going to cede our rights that easily, despite the best efforts of the politicized Supreme Court of the United States of America,\u201d she began. \u201cNo longer can we strike the balance \u2026 Shocking. Absolutely shocking that they have taken away our right to have reasonable restrictions. We can have restrictions on speech. You can\u2019t yell \u2018fire\u2019 in a crowded theater. But somehow there\u2019s no restrictions allowed on the Second Amendment. This is New York, we don\u2019t back down. We fight back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>WATCH:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m sorry this dark day has come,\u201d she continued. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/04\/12\/kathy-hochul-calls-end-mass-shooting-brooklyn-new-york-shooting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: \u2018No More Mass Shootings\u2019: New York Gov. Kathy Hochul Laments Mass Shooting)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>She criticized the Court for allegedly wanting to return to the year 1788 when the Constitution was ratified, incorrectly claiming that the only weapons at the time were muskets.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m prepared to go back to muskets,\u201d she said. \u201cI don\u2019t think they envisioned the high capacity assault weapon magazines intended for battlefields.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When the Second Amendment was ratified, the most common types of firearms were the musket and the flintlock pistol, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militaryfactory.com\/smallarms\/guns-1700-1799.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">including<\/a> the blunderbuss short-ranged musket and British Sea Service Pistol, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/wonk\/wp\/2016\/06\/13\/the-men-who-wrote-the-2nd-amendment-would-never-recognize-an-ar-15\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a> to the Washington Post. Some citizens owned a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ranker.com\/list\/firearms-in-1791\/rachel-souerbry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">dueling pistol<\/a> which were standardized, and carried a ball of 48 to the pound.<\/p>\n<p>Hochul <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/06\/new-york-gov-signs-slew-of-strict-gun-control-bills-into-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">signed<\/a> a slew of gun control legislation in June raising the minimum age to purchase a semi-automatic rifle to 21, strengthen the state\u2019s red flag laws, make it more difficult to purchase semi-automatic weapons and ban body armor sales except for those in select professions.<\/p>\n<p>President <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/04\/11\/joe-biden-cannon-second-amendment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Joe Biden<\/a> has repeated the false claim that an individual could not purchase a cannon in the late 18th century. The Washington Post gave his statement four Pinocchios in a June 28, 2021, piece, saying there was no federal law about the types of firearms a private citizen could own and that they were permitted to own a cannon.<\/p>\n<p>He then claimed that cannons were outlawed 20 years after the Revolutionary War, which is still incorrect, the Washington Post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2021\/06\/28\/bidens-false-claim-that-2nd-amendment-bans-cannon-ownership\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Democratic New York Gov.
