Wade, Senate Republicans have introduced legislation that hands leakers a $10,000 fine and up to 10 years in prison.<\/p>\n<p>Led by Louisiana\u2019s Bill Cassidy, Marco Rubio of Florida and Cindy Hyde-Smith of Mississippi put forth the Stop Supreme Court Leakers Act on Thursday. Were it to become law, it would impact future leakers and not fine or imprison <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/02\/supreme-court-roe-v-wade-samuel-alito-politico\/\">whoever leaked<\/a> the Dobbs v. Jackson Women\u2019s Health Organization draft opinion in May, the Washington Examiner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/senate\/cassidy-bill-to-imprison-scotus-leakers-and-impose-fine\">first<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe recent leak was an attempt to publicly intimidate justices and undermine the integrity of the Court\u2014all while putting lives at risk,\u201d Cassidy told The Daily Caller News Foundation.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/22\/karine-jean-pierre-violence-intimidation-threats-pro-abortion-activists-janes-revenge\/\"><strong>(RELATED: Jean-Pierre Responds To Violence And Intimidation Threats By Pro-Abortion Activists)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Dobbs draft opinion was leaked in Politico and sparked particular outrage <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2022\/05\/02\/supreme-court-abortion-draft-opinion-00029473\">among<\/a> Republican lawmakers. Since the leak, justices have been fatally <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/08\/brett-kavanaugh-man-gun-maryland-supreme-court-roe-v-wade-dobbs-v-jackson-womens-health\/\">threatened<\/a> and protests have occurred outside their homes.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, one man named Nicholas Roske was <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/09\/cnn-analyst-hypocritical-left-lecturing-violence-kavanaugh-attack\/\">arrested<\/a> and charged in June with attempted murder after law enforcement caught him outside Justice Brett Kavanaugh\u2019s Maryland home after midnight. Roske <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/nicholas-roske-brett-kavanaugh-attempted-assassination\/\">plead<\/a> not guilty Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRoske stated that he began thinking about how to give his life a purpose and decided that he would kill the Supreme Court Justice,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Nicholas-Roske-Affidavit.pdf\">said<\/a> an FBI affidavit.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7457464\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-7457464\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">WASHINGTON, DC \u2013 MARCH 01: (Photo by Evelyn Hockstein-Pool\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>House Republicans <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/31\/house-republicans-mike-johnson-legislation-imprison-supreme-court-leakers\/\">introduced<\/a> their own bill in May that would make leaking information from the Supreme Court a federal crime. Prior to this, House Republicans demanded a criminal probe from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and FBI into the Dobbs leak, <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/05\/house-republicans-john-rose-letter-justice-department-fbi-criminal-investigation-leak-draft-supreme-court-opinion\/\">The Daily Caller<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>The new Senate bill would criminalize leaks of any internal notes on cases heard before the Supreme Court, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cassidy.senate.gov\/newsroom\/press-releases\/cassidy-introduces-stop-supreme-court-leakers-act\">according<\/a> to a press release, and any communications pertaining to a pending matter between justices and an officer or employee.<\/p>\n<p>It would also criminalize leaks of \u201ccommunication[s] between officers and employees of the Supreme Court\u201d pertaining to a pending matter, draft opinions or final opinions before the date is officially released, any personal information on justices not \u201clegally available to the public,\u201d and anything else \u201cdesignated to be confidential\u201d by the Chief Justice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou shouldn\u2019t receive a badge of honor or financial reward for leaking confidential documents from one of our nation\u2019s most sacred institutions \u2013 you should face serious penalties,\u201d Rubio <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cassidy.senate.gov\/newsroom\/press-releases\/cassidy-introduces-stop-supreme-court-leakers-act\">said<\/a> in a statement. \u201cThe leak of a draft opinion of Dobbs not only undermined the integrity of our judicial system, but also continues to spur threats of violence against Supreme Court Justices and crisis pregnancy centers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
