Bee Nguyen, the Democratic nominee in Georgia\u2019s secretary of state race, has repeatedly claimed that the state\u2019s 2021 election law constitutes voter suppression.<\/p>\n<p>The Georgia state legislature passed SB 202 in March 2021 along party lines. The legislation <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/31\/georgia-voting-bill-absentee-voting-id-requirement-food-water\/\">mandated<\/a> three weeks of early voting and instituted voter ID requirements for absentee ballots. Many top <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/01\/16\/jim-clyburn-election-integrity-laws-jim-crow-2-0\/\">Democrats<\/a>, including President <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/26\/jim-crow-21st-century-president-joe-biden-releases-statement-georgia-election-bill-kemp\/\">Joe Biden<\/a>, compared the law to Jim Crow. Under <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/02\/biden-manfred-mlb-pressure-all-star-game-atlanta-georgia-elections-law\/\">pressure<\/a> from Biden, Major League Baseball moved its 2021 All-Star Game from Atlanta to Denver, Colorado.<\/p>\n<p>Nguyen, first elected to the state legislature in 2017, has <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BeeForGeorgia\/status\/1357480892332130306\">repeatedly<\/a> referred to SB 202 as a \u201cvoter suppression\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BeeForGeorgia\/status\/1371857644491800584\">bill<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">The Governor is getting ready to sign SB202, an omnibus voter suppression bill, based on lies into law to signal his allegiance to Trump,\u201d she tweeted shortly after the state Senate sent the legislation to Republican Gov. He must be really scared of Stacey Abrams. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/id3k1zxV3L\">pic.twitter.com\/id3k1zxV3L<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Bee Nguyen \ud83d\udc1d (@BeeForGeorgia) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BeeForGeorgia\/status\/1375212862394748936?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 25, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Nguyen <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BeeForGeorgia\/status\/1482914374822109190\">claimed<\/a> during a January MSNBC appearance that legislation eliminating drop boxes was part of an \u201cassault on our democracy\u201d and an attempt to \u201cinstall minority rule.\u201d Georgia did not <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ajc.com\/news\/state--regional-govt--politics\/ballot-drop-boxes-approved-for-georgia-voters-during-coronavirus\/4Bir3Ymx1zL0ZOGsXMazEO\/\">use<\/a> absentee ballot drop boxes until the COVID-19 pandemic, and a <a href=\"https:\/\/legiscan.com\/GA\/bill\/SB325\/2021\">proposal<\/a> to eliminate them entirely has not passed.<\/p>\n<p>Nguyen even appeared to suggest that voter suppression was a key factor in Democrat Stacey Abrams\u2019 2018 loss to Kemp, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BeeForGeorgia\/status\/1061428190747467776\">saying<\/a> that she was \u201csaddened\u201d by it. <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2019\/02\/16\/stacey-abrams-dnc-meeting-suppression\/\">Abrams<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/26\/elizabeth-warren-stacey-abrams-georiga\/\">Democrats<\/a> nationwide have repeatedly <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2019\/03\/04\/clinton-lied-georgia-2018-election\/\">claimed<\/a> that she lost that election due to suppression of black voters, despite record turnout.<\/p>\n<p>More than 800,000 Georgians <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/23\/georgia-record-voter-turnout-new-voting-laws\/\">utilized<\/a> early voting before the state\u2019s May 24 primary, a record-high. Nguyen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2022-election\/bee-nguyen-wins-democratic-runoff-primary-secretary-state-georgia-rcna30373\">won<\/a> a primary run-off Tuesday, June 21, against former state Rep. Dee Dawkins-Haigler and will face off against Republican Brad Raffensperger in November.<\/p>\n<p>Raffensperger, a champion of the legislation, has emphasized its crackdown on line-warming, or electioneering. Several Georgia elected officials have faced investigations in recent years for passing out snacks and beverages to voters near polling places, and Raffensperger <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/07\/brad-raffensperger-line-warming-georgia-ban\/\">issued<\/a> a warning before the state\u2019s January 2021 Senate run-offs about the practice. <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/04\/liberal-activists-in-department-of-justice-responsible-for-lawsuit-against-georgia-voting-bill-brad-raffensperger-claims\/\"><strong>(RELATED: \u2018Liberal Activists\u2019 In DOJ Responsible For Lawsuit Against Georgia Voting Bill, Raffensperger Claims)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Nguyen did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller\u2019s request for comment on whether or not she could identify an eligible voter who was turned away due to the legislation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>State Rep.
