Gavin Newsom\u2019s desk that would prohibit police from arresting individuals suspected of prostitution Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The bill\u2019s sponsor, Democrat Senator Scott Weiner, says that <a href=\"https:\/\/abc7news.com\/prostution-loitering-california-bill\/11984598\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">arresting those suspected<\/a> of engaging in prostitution disproportionately affects racial minorities and transgender individuals.<\/p>\n<p>Critics say the bill would make it harder to combat sex trafficking in the state.<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/02\/newsom-reparations-critical-race-theorists\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED:\u00a0California\u2019s Reparations \u2018Task Force\u2019 Cites Three Prominent Critical Race Theorists Dozens Of Times)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis bill seems to be perfect if you want sex trafficking to even increase in California,\u201d Greg Burt, a spokesperson for the California Family Council, said, <a href=\"https:\/\/abc7news.com\/prostution-loitering-california-bill\/11984598\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according to ABC 7 News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/leginfo.legislature.ca.gov\/faces\/billNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=202120220SB357\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bill<\/a> would allow those convicted of and serving sentences for loitering for prostitution to appeal the court to dismiss the conviction.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">California lawmakers have finally sent Gov. Gavin Newsom a bill that would bar police from making arrests on a charge of loitering for prostitution, nine months after it passed the Legislature.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/04rln3uOxL\">https:\/\/t.co\/04rln3uOxL<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 KPBS News (@KPBSnews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KPBSnews\/status\/1539405316286300163?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 22, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The bill, introduced in February, passed both chambers of the legislature in California in September, but Weiner waited to send it to Newsome\u2019s desk.<\/p>\n<p>According to ABC 7 News, he did so, \u201cto make the case about why this civil rights bill is good policy \u2026 and why this discriminatory loitering crime goes against California values.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The bill is heading to Newsom\u2019s desk as crime in the state skyrockets. But California voters have issued stern electoral rebukes against the political establishment in their state. San Francisco\u2019s District Attorney Chesa Boudin, criticized for adopting what many saw as a soft on crime approach, <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/08\/chesa-boudin-recalled-san-francisco-election-district-attorney\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">was recalled<\/a> in June.<\/p>\n<p>In April, a survey found that Santa Monica was rated one of the \u201cleast safe\u201d cities in California. 17 criminal organizations are reportedly <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/04\/12\/los-angelas-gangs-crime-lapd-crews-robbing-rich\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">targeting rich neighborhoods<\/a> in Los Angeles for robberies.<\/p>\n<p>Senator Weiner did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The California state legislature sent a bill to Democratic Gov.
