Jim Banks (R-IN) is introducing legislation on Wednesday requiring elementary schools and secondary schools that receive federal funding to obtain a parent\u2019s consent before they begin facilitating a child\u2019s gender transition.<\/p>\n<p>The Indiana Republican\u2019s legislation, a Republican Study Committee initiative, mirrors a Senate version of the bill <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cotton.senate.gov\/news\/press-releases\/cotton-introduces-bill-to-prevent-schools-from-concealing-gender-transitions-from-parents\">introduced<\/a> by Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) in October \u2014 ensuring, as Banks said, that \u201cfederally funded schools are not laboratories for the Left\u2019s radical agenda.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur schools are a place for math and history education, not gender theory indoctrination,\u201d Banks told The Daily Wire. \u201cNo parent should have to worry that their child\u2019s school is enabling, promoting, or facilitating a child\u2019s \u2018gender transition\u2019 behind their back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Empower Parents to Protect Their Kids Act of 2022 warns that school districts across the nation are \u201cviolating parental and familial rights by encouraging or\u00a0instructing staff to deceive or withhold information from parents if their child expresses confusion about their gender and is seeking to \u2018transition.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWithout\u00a0parental knowledge or consent, schools are facilitating \u2018social gender transitions\u2019 by changing the\u00a0names and pronouns of children in school, or even\u00a0allowing children to change which sex-segregated facilities they use, such as rest rooms, locker rooms,\u00a0and dormitories or other housing for overnight field\u00a0trips,\u201d the legislation states.<\/p>\n<p>But \u201csocially transitioning\u201d a child is not an evidence-based practice or a \u201cneutral or uncontroversial decision,\u201d the legislation says.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis practice is an experimental social and psychological intervention that has\u00a0immediate effects on a child\u2019s psychology and a high\u00a0likelihood of changing the life path of a child,\u201d the bill continues, warning that policies that \u201ccircumvent parental authority\u201d are a violation of parents\u2019 constitutional rights to care for their children.<\/p>\n<p>In California, The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/california-school-creates-transition-closet-allows-students-to-swap-out-of-clothes-parents-approve-of\">previously reported in February<\/a>, a\u00a0high school\u2019s \u00a0\u201ctransition closet\u201d sparked a backlash as parents protested that students would be allowed to come to school in clothes that their \u201cparents approve of\u201d before changing into clothes that match their stated gender identity.<\/p>\n<p>In Wisconsin, The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/wisconsin-teachers-told-to-hide-students-gender-identity-from-parents\">reported in March<\/a>,\u00a0teachers were reportedly instructed to hide students\u2019 gender identity transitions from their parents.<\/p>\n<p>Cotton told The Daily Wire in a Wednesday statement that \u201cschools should never be allowed to impose radical, harmful gender ideology on children\u2014especially without parents\u2019 knowledge and consent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy bill will protect students and ensure parents are in control of their children\u2019s education,\u201d he said. \u201cSchools must remain institutions of education, not indoctrination camps where minors are manipulated and brainwashed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Republican Study Committee had <a href=\"https:\/\/rsc-banks.house.gov\/news\/press-releases\/rsc-unveils-framework-restore-american-family\">announced<\/a> a framework of economic and social principles intended to \u201crestore the American family\u201d and to act as the \u201cfoundation of a pro-family conservative agenda when Republicans win back the House majority\u201d in early June.<\/p>\n<p>That\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mcusercontent.com\/d4254037a343b683d142111e0\/files\/9959fb7c-6118-85a8-6f38-63f048fd3d77\/Family_Principles_Doc_Final_PDF.pdf\">initiative<\/a>\u00a0specifically seeks to protect children from \u201cfar-left\u201d ideologies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe support the protection of children from far-left ideologies like the transgender movement and racist ideology in their schools, the dangers of Big Tech and the internet, and other influences that cause trauma, endanger children\u2019s health or otherwise blunt their development into functional adult citizens,\u201d the framework reads.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rep.
