Roughly 30% said \u201cno.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When broken down along political parties, 16.4% of Democrats said \u201cyes,\u201d 30.1% said \u201cnot sure\u201d and 53.5% said \u201cno.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Republicans overwhelmingly thought the laws were open for abuse, with 72.2% saying \u201cyes\u201d and just 14.1% saying \u201cno.\u201d Independents similarly believed the laws have potential for abuse, with 52.3% responding \u201cyes\u201d and 24.3% saying \u201cnot sure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The survey was conducted between June 16 and June 19 amongst 1,084 respondents with a +\/- 2.9% margin of error. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/19\/fred-upton-gun-control\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: \u2018Law Abiding Folks Shouldn\u2019t Have Any Fears,\u2019 Republican Rep. Fred Upton Claims About Gun Control Bill)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmericans want real, workable solutions to the mass shootings we are seeing in this nation, but it\u2019s obvious that they don\u2019t see the proposed \u2018red flag\u2019 laws as the answer,\u201d President of Convention of States Action Mark Meckler said in a statement. \u201cGovernment officials at all levels have spent the last two years demonizing their opponents and using whatever means possible to censor or threaten those who disagree with them, so the idea that we should now trust those same people to not abuse a law that could infringe on basic constitutional rights is laughable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMore and more Americans are coming to the conclusion that the government abuses any power it\u2019s given, and they are responding accordingly,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/22\/senate-advances-debate-gun-control-legislation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Senate voted<\/a>\u00a064-34 Tuesday to start <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/17\/john-cornyn-heckled-texas-republican-party-gun-control\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">debate<\/a> on a <a href=\"https:\/\/s.wsj.net\/public\/resources\/documents\/bipartisan_safer_communities_act_text.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bipartisan gun control package<\/a> that includes $750 million that would in part help states implement \u201cextreme risk protection order programs,\u201d also known as <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/19\/fred-upton-gun-control\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">red flag laws<\/a>.
