With these new regulations, we\u2019re taking a historic step forward in reducing plastic pollution, and keeping our communities and the places we love clean.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Similar initiatives have passed throughout the United States. <a href=\"http:\/\/dailywire.com\/topic\/philadelphia\">Philadelphia<\/a> started <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcphiladelphia.com\/news\/local\/plastic-bag-ban-starts-in-philly-july-1-though-full-enforcement-will-take-longer\/2862509\/\">enforcing<\/a> its plastic bag ban earlier this year, while <a href=\"http:\/\/dailywire.com\/topic\/san-francisco\">San Francisco<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/san-francisco-considers-banning-plastic-straws-paul-bois\">prohibited<\/a> plastic straws and cutlery in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a movement not just happening in San Francisco but nationally and internationally,\u201d Peter Gallotta, spokesman for San Francisco\u2019s Department of Environment, said in 2018. \u201cThe larger elephant in the room is the single-use disposable culture we find ourselves in, and straws are the epitome of this unnecessary daily waste.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At the time, Daily Wire Editor Emeritus Ben Shapiro <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/shapiro-newsweek-plastic-straw-ban-sucks-ben-shapiro\">noted<\/a> the absurdity of San Francisco\u2019s move, especially given the city\u2019s issues with crime and management of human waste.<\/p>\n<p>More recently, Canada drew criticism for announcing a \u201cnational freeze\u201d on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/breaking-canada-introducing-new-extreme-gun-control-measures\">handgun ownership<\/a> \u2014 a move that came after a shooter killed 21 individuals at an elementary school in <a href=\"http:\/\/dailywire.com\/topic\/uvalde\">Uvalde<\/a>, Texas. \u201cWhat this means is that it will no longer be possible to buy, sell, transfer or import handguns anywhere in Canada. In other words, we\u2019re capping the market for handguns,\u201d Trudeau said.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, Trudeau <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/justin-trudeau-to-revoke-emergency-powers-used-to-target-freedom-convoy-according-to-reports\">used emergency powers<\/a> to discourage key organizers and participants in the Freedom Convoy protest \u2014 a movement of truckers and citizens who opposed Canada\u2019s vaccine mandates and public health restrictions.
