I don\u2019t think it exists at all. It might, you know, you never know. If he wanted to run, that\u2019s OK with me. I think we\u2019d win by a lot. But he\u2019s good. And he\u2019s done a good job as governor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And for his part, DeSantis, playing coy like all politicians, says he\u2019s plenty happy just serving the people of Florida.\u00a0\u201cI\u2019m not considering anything beyond doing my job. We got a lot of stuff going on in Florida. I\u2019m going to be running for reelection next year,\u201d DeSantis <a href=\"https:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/florida-gov-ron-desantis-says-031935029.html\">said<\/a> in September 2020.<\/p>\n<p>So, essentially, nobody knows anything. But now we at least know that Trump hasn\u2019t even asked DeSantis if he\u2019s making a presidential run in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know if Ron is running, and I don\u2019t ask him,\u201d Trump\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/magazine\/2022\/06\/27\/can-ron-desantis-displace-donald-trump-as-the-gops-combatant-in-chief\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> The New Yorker in an interview for an upcoming cover story. \u201cIt\u2019s his prerogative. I think I would win.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The piece also exposes some friction between the two.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe thing that grated most was that, as Trump considered running in 2024, DeSantis did not rule out a campaign of his own. The more plausible DeSantis has become as a nominee, the more people have speculated that he might decide to take on Trump,\u201d the magazine said.<\/p>\n<p>The author wrote: \u201cTrump told me that he was \u2018very close to making a decision\u2019 about whether to run\u2026. In nearly every poll of likely Republican contenders, Trump still has a solid advantage: DeSantis\u2019s constituency was Trump\u2019s first. Trump seems to want to keep it that way. A consultant who has worked for several Republican candidates said that the former President had talked with confidants about ways to stop DeSantis: \u2018Trump World is working overtime to find ways to burn DeSantis down.
