His cause of death has yet to be determined.<\/p>\n<p>Former Cowboys teammate Terence Newman recalled this week that Barber was in distress during their last encounter, which was three years ago.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe wasn\u2019t doing too well \u2026 he looked bad \u2026 like a different person, like he couldn\u2019t function,\u201d Newman said,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/2022\/06\/14\/marion-barbers-ex-teammate-terence-newman-scared-by-last-encounter\"> according<\/a> to Sports Illustrated. \u201cWhen I tell you I was scared, I thought he might swing on me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While speculation has stirred about Barber suffering from chronic traumatic encephalopathy, commonly known as CTE, the late player\u2019s father Marion Barber II<a href=\"https:\/\/www.star-telegram.com\/sports\/nfl\/dallas-cowboys\/article262097117.html\"> said<\/a> in a recent interview that his son did not want his brain donated for CTE research.<\/p>\n<p>Before his death, Barber was<a href=\"https:\/\/thelandryhat.com\/2022\/06\/13\/cowboys-marion-barber-death-details-cte-research\/\"> reportedly<\/a> hospitalized for mental health concerns on two occasions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>April 2022: Dwayne Haskins, 24<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/withhold-any-judgement-widow-of-nfls-dwayne-haskins-releases-statement-following-autopsy-report\"> Dwayne Haskins<\/a> died in April, after he was struck by a dump truck while attempting to cross the westbound lanes of I-595 in Broward County, Florida.<\/p>\n<p>A recent medical report showed that the 24-year-old had a .20 blood alcohol content level at the time of his death and tested positive for the drugs ketamine and norketamine. Details into the crash remain unknown.<\/p>\n<p><strong>December 2021: Glenn Foster Jr., 31<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Saints defensive lineman Glenn Foster Jr., who had a history of mental health problems, died after he was taken into police custody in December of last year.<\/p>\n<p>The athlete\u2019s family has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/33354275\/former-new-orleans-saints-defensive-end-glenn-foster-jr-died-police-custody-family-wants-answers\">raised questions<\/a> about Foster\u2019s death.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGlenn Foster Jr.\u2019s death, while in the Pickens County Sheriff\u2019s custody and care, was not from natural causes as the independent autopsy suggests there was some evidence of neck compressions and strangulation,\u201d lawyers for the family<a href=\"https:\/\/dicellolevitt.com\/co-counsel-for-glenn-foster-jr-comment-on-independent-autopsy-results-indicating-he-did-not-die-of-natural-causes\/\"> said<\/a> in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAccording to the lawyers for Mr. Foster\u2019s family, they had been told that Mr. Foster had \u2018been in an altercation with another inmate and was now under the jurisdiction of the sheriff\u2019s office, which delayed his treatment,&#8217;\u201d according to a New York Times report published in December.<\/p>\n<p><strong>February 2021: Vincent Jackson, 38\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Former NFL wide receiver Vincent Jackson was found dead at Homewood Suites in Brandon, Florida, last year.<\/p>\n<p>An autopsy report from the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner said the athlete died of \u201cchronic alcohol use.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Days earlier, the Concussion Legacy Foundation said the 38-year-old \u201cwas diagnosed with Stage 2 chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), the progressive brain disease associated with repeated head trauma,\u201d ESPN<a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/32925482\/vincent-jackson-died-chronic-alcohol-use-medical-examiner-says\"> noted<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>June 2020: Reche Caldwell, 41<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Six-year NFL player Reche Caldwell was fatally shot outside his Florida home at age 41.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUpon arrival, officers located an adult male victim of a gunshot wound in the front yard of a residence. Officers immediately began providing life-saving measures,\u201d police<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportingnews.com\/us\/nfl\/news\/reche-caldwell-nfl-targeted-killing\/19zs4hqhok9101eztpnmltv93y\"> said<\/a>. \u201cTampa Fire Rescue arrived and transported the victim to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. This does not appear to be a random act. However, it is very early in the investigation and detectives are working to develop leads in the case.
