Mark Warner (D., Va.), Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D., Mich.), and 19 other lawmakers wrote <a href=\"https:\/\/www.warner.senate.gov\/public\/_cache\/files\/5\/6\/5698c724-cc0d-42f6-bbb6-b05e472b4564\/26F26BB28841042A7931EEC58AC80E08.anti-abortion-letter-to-google-final.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">urging<\/a> Google to &#8220;limit the appearance&#8221; or add &#8220;user friendly Disclaimers&#8221; of pro-life clinics in search results. The Democrats said they want to &#8220;ensure women seeking health care services are directed to the basic information they request.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Animosity toward pro-life pregnancy centers and offices has increased since a draft opinion of the Supreme Court\u2019s <em>Dobbs<\/em> v. <em>Jackson Women&#8217;s Health<\/em> decision was <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/courts\/supreme-court-set-to-overturn-roe-v-wade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">leaked<\/a> in May, showing a plan to overturn the original 1973\u00a0<em>Roe<\/em> v.\u00a0<em>Wade<\/em> ruling. <a href=\"https:\/\/catholicvote.org\/pregnancy-center-attack-tracker\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dozens<\/a> of crisis pregnancy centers have been <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/latest-news\/abortion-activists-firebomb-another-pro-life-office\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">vandalized<\/a> since the leak. Many of these attacks have not been federally investigated, as the Justice Department official responsible has <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/biden-administration\/pro-life-facilities-are-under-attack-a-top-doj-official-called-them-fake-clinics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">refused<\/a> to intervene.<\/p>\n<p><span>The Democrats&#8217; letter <a href=\"https:\/\/counterhate.com\/blog\/anti-abortion-fake-clinics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cites<\/a> a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/counterhate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/CCDH-Anti-Abortion-Fake-Clinic-Report.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>report<\/span><\/a><span> from the Center for Countering Digital Hate, a nonprofit that has <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/committees.parliament.uk\/writtenevidence\/38805\/pdf\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>advocated<\/span><\/a><span> for big tech censorship in the United Kingdom. Lobbyists who have worked for CCDH have also lobbied for Microsoft and green energy companies. The study logged Google search results for &#8220;abortion clinic near me&#8221; and &#8220;abortion pill&#8221; in states with abortion trigger laws.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Researchers recorded search results that qualify as &#8220;anti-abortion fake clinics.&#8221; Planned Parenthood <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/blog\/what-are-crisis-pregnancy-centers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">defines<\/a> &#8220;fake clinics&#8221; as &#8220;clinics or mobile vans that look like real health centers, but they have a shady, harmful agenda: to scare, shame, or pressure you out of getting an abortion \u2026 their goal is to spread misinformation and propaganda.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The research found that 11 percent of search results and 37 percent of Google Maps results led to so-called fake clinics which, according to Planned Parenthood, may offer &#8220;free pregnancy tests, abortion counseling, pre-abortion screenings, abortion education, post-abortion care, or after-abortion help.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The lawmakers said CCDH\u2019s findings &#8220;undermines the integrity of Google\u2019s search results,&#8221; adding, &#8220;if Google must continue showing these misleading results in search results and Google Maps, the results should, at the very least, be appropriately labeled.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Congressional Democrats wrote to Google\u2019s parent company on Friday to pressure the search engine to suppress results that offer alternatives to abortion.
